Need some help with SNES Video Noise causes!

Post by jade88 »

So last night i began using my new setup, a Sony Trintron kv27FS100 with a Shinybow SB2840 scart to component adapter. I figured that was a pretty sweet consumer crt setup, i like playing on larger screens.

I was a little upset to see that there was such obvious video noise coming out of my SNES. I'm using an OEM AC adapter and the absolute best Csync RGB cables with multi coar from our favorite Ebay cable dealer. This is my childhood SNES, not a 1 chip, if that makes a difference. I'm also using some very good quality component video cables that i picked up off of Ebay. I tested out my N64 thoroughly and i saw none of this distortion.

I can see little waves being made under my picture. I figure there are a few possible culprits, but i need your help in narrowing it down.

1. A bad AC adapter? Maybe mine has seen better days, i know ac adapters can introduce noise.

2. Bad compacitors , i did not notice any issues when i last played on my HDTV with the RGB mini, but hey stuff goes eventually right?

3. Those dastardly vertical lines are more noticeable in RGB, though i thought they weren't? Is there a fix for this?

Anything else you guys can think of? Where should i start?

Have you tried plugging the SNES and/or display in different outlets? It could be caused by a ground loop.

I will now, but wouldn't the issue some up on my N64 too though?

It could be the power supply for the shinybow. Someone on reddit had an issue that sounded similar to yours and replacing the power supply for the shinybow converter fixed it.

Try the tilt function on your tv and go to either end to see if it changes the noise, a Sony KV27fs100l I used to own had the same problem. From reading online it seems the micrprocessor that allows this tilting can sometimes cause interference due to age.
