So, I haven't fired up Trackmania Canyon in months.

At some point, they updated it really heavily, and now loads of shit is broken.
I spent an hour trying to get the game to boot [apparently it needed a driver update to work, since that's what fixed it].
I sit down to play with my controller -- mappings are gone, I get a debug console when I press a button. Bleh. Cleared out whatever the hell it was reading and mapped my buttons [which admittedly, is a lot nicer than it used to be].
I finally sit down to play some maps I have saved. First one I load is a road track in the sky and works just fine. The second one I loaded was a bit of a dirt track, and big-ass sections of road are missing, leading right into the void.

At least the game runs better than it used to, but it always ran fairly decently anyway.

You must have been root to delete the root - avoid being root.

the single folder I intended to delete required root. I set a few safeguards (rm -i alias & modified terminal prompt) to help to avoid this type of mistake in the future.

tbh, I'd be totally okay if they made ten Harvest Moons for every one hardcore action revival ala WG Reloaded, as long as it kept them afloat. I'll be playing TNWA until I'm senile as it is, so just a couple more gems along those lines would go a ways.

TNWA with a rebalanced Kamaitachi, wider playfield, upped enemy limit and multiplayer would be nice, and by nice I mean it'd give me a deadly boner like that one Brazilian spider does. Guess the license would be a problem unless Taito/whoever owns them wanted to play ball but they could always just call it Robot Fightan X Again 2: Coccyx-Shattering Cyborg Boogaloo.

pls play The Ninja Warriors Again right nao. Go straight to Hard with either Ninja or Kunoichi. Seriously, it's volatile. Not many games make me wish for a fucking gore mod just so I can punish meddlers more severely. I'm talkin liftin' a fucker clear off the floor with my metal thumbs jammed to the knuckles in their eye sockets (HEAD ASPLODE SFX cuts off SCREAM), seizing a throat and dashing a head into scenery Splatterhouse style (body slumps to floor, flickers to signify HE DEAD), even punting a dazed midget into a tyre fire ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqwuksvDFAQ )

I shy away from XTREEM frame-by-frame optimisation too (as one of my great shumpsfarm heroes Rob once said, competence is what I go for), but you could analyse this game forever and still get knocked on your ass within seconds. And at the same time, it's always your fault. The expertly restrained generosity ensures there'll always be something you could've drawn on, to hold your ground if not outright floor them instead. Next run, then! ITS BEAUTIFUL.

I don't mind that they are making Harvest Moon games... in fact, I kinda like Harvest Moon. But the entire feeling of this particular one is just repulsive. The graphics, the lazy way it's coded, how hard it tries to look (and probably is?) a "free to play" game, and even more casual than the series has ever been. It completely lost the charm of anything that was Harvest Moon. As you'd probably also notice, the entire thread that I linked is full of HM fans who are absolutely outraged at how terrible this looks.

I think the world has more than enough Harvest Moon games, but I wouldn't mind a world where Natsume made a really cool HM game, and used that to follow up with a badass 2D R2RKMF game.

I actually didn't click the thread until now - I've grown to think of HM as "that thing Natsume does instead of badass action games" to the point that if I see the name, I just flip to something else as if my grandma's soap opera has come on TV.

As far as I know, Natsume only published the Harvest Moon games and the real Harvest Moon games are currently being released in the US (and EU?) under the name Story of Seasons. I mostly heard bad things about those new games named Harvest Moon and I'm not even sure if Natsume is developing them.

Horeh shiet, I had no idea! So apparently "Harvest Moon" was just the title Natsume Inc localised the source JP games under. And in recent years, the original dev has handled localisation themselves, as "Story of Seasons," while Natsume have kept the Harvest Moon brand name. Hmm, well. Now I am truly afraid to ask.
