XRGB2 - most retarded switch ever

Post by invzim »

Maybe someone can stick this on the wiki:

Mine was flaky. After cleaning the inside of the switch with a q-tip with isopropyl + the metal tabs on the side, it nice and stable. Those metal parts are not exactly gold plated.

Two of the tiny springs went flying and MIA, so stuck some plastic in there to make a connection.

Yeah, I just make sure that my power switch on the XRGB2 is pushed in all the time -- don't want to have it mess up on me down the road. I bought mine brand new back in 2002 back in the day. Of course, I did see new XRGB-2s for sale in Akihabara district for 22,000 yen in the various video game shops back in early 2000 but I missed out on buying one at that attractive pricepoint.

Mine is almost completely dead. A little too much pressure or not enough and it's either the colors, sync, or power that won't connect.

Instead of trying to fix it again I'd rather solder R,G,B,S and install a simple switch in place of that giant caterpillar shit. Or, I don't know, maybe just make sure it will at least let the power through if not the rest.

Mine has issues where if you wiggle the scart connector the picture goes a bit crazy and colors go missing etc. I almost sold it for spares when it didn't work but when I plugged it in again 2 years later it buzzed back into life. I've put about 20 hours on it since.

Weird things.

How did you open the switch?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I just opened the case, and removed the metal pin on top - then it just pulls out.

You didn't have to break or bend anything to get it out?

This old topic is my new hero. Seeing all the problems mentioned above and it started to feel like just brushing the power switch was enough.
Edit: also my PCB/STD switch is fucked.

I found the replacement switch online. Around $30, but the better solution is just to solder all connections to permanently on and use a barrel adapter with an on/off switch.

My power switch is fine now but I'll solder it in future if it plays up again, the pcb/std switch is more of a problem and I've had to order a new one from the US :/
