Hey all, it's been a while since I last posted in here, but I'm still lurking around and love shmups!
I've been hard at work lately developing a new site based on the Shooting Watches that Hudson released a while back, and wanted to share with you all to get your thoughts! I just launched it (just now, at 2am, like some crazy idiot).
I've tried to keep the logic behind the site as close as possible to the actual shooting watches, and have made it so you can actually use a controller plugged into your PC so you can test your abilities on real hardware. There's also a really cool NES ROM that I had developed by KHAN Games which you can download, if you want to take it and play it on an NES emulator, or if you have a flash cart you can play on real hardware!
So without further ado, here's the link: http://www.shmupspeed.com/
Please note that right now it's desktop only. I don't strictly turn the site off or tell you to go away if you're on a mobile device, but it really just won't work on your phone just yet, so consider this a beta!
ShmupSpeed - A new site inspired by Hudson's Shooting Watchs
Re: ShmupSpeed - A new site inspired by Hudson's Shooting Wa
Just wanted to let you all know as I know a few people from here have submitted high scores: I recently updated the site to have THREE leaderboards now, for each of the possible inputs; Keyboard, Controller, and Touchscreen.
If you find any way of "gaming the system" or bugs otherwise, please let me know! I aim to make this site as accurate as possible!

Cool idea! Like the simplicity of the site, well done.
I had submitted a keyboard score (102, should've ranked 9th), but it didn't show up. Is there a lag time between submitting and leaderboard refresh, or is it possible it registered as a gamepad? It's a bluetooth keyboard on a mac.

I just submitted a score of 336 by turning on autofire (25 times er second) on joytokey. You can delete that result (spc). Sadly, I don't think there's any way of stopping people from doing that type of thing.Noid wrote:If you find any way of "gaming the system"

Right now, to see your score you have to refresh the page. I'll be working on changing that and a few things this week.
As for auto fire controllers and macros, I'm working on better detection for that stuff. For instance, I'll be making it so that if you press the button at the same rate for a prolonged period of time, it should catch it and not let you submit. I just have to make it work without breaking it for everyone else.
Since the game all happen on the client side and via Javascript, there are ways for sure to break it intentionally (I can literally get any score I want easily since I know how it's built). You could reverse engineer it and give yourself whatever score you want.
But really that's just a dick move and not the point, the point of this in to give YOU the ability to test yourself. The leaderboard is really just a fun extra. I will of course continue to police it and fix bugs as best I can!
So that's my priority right now is to make your score show on the board right away, and to work out any bugs or exploits with the game itself.
Once I have the core gameplay as solid as I can, I plan to add another game mode, called "Endurance", which will count up instead of down, and you can go as long as you want. Just a fun extra mode with its own leaderboard. I plan to add more stuff based on feedback!
Thanks for the comments, and feel free to let me know your thoughts and any bugs or improvements otherwise that I might make. It's a tool for the community after all!

I like this concept and had been thinking of something similar.
I like that you did it, the site looks great!
I have a wired, xbox 360 controller plugged in. When I used it though, it was definitely not registering every button press and felt rather laggy. Any ideas? I didn't feel like it was keeping up or gave an accurate measure.

Making an action platformer with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

Mobile Support confirmed.
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.
Farewell.
