Heartwarming moments in shmups? (spoilers)
I know a definite one. Chapter 5 of Astebreed, when Fio and Esto reunite as sisters after Roy manages to convince the two.

In Galaga when you save and reunite with the captured fighter only to fight on side by side to defeat the oppressors. Such a touching moment.
Reco having no panties was pretty sweet too.

Hey, how about the endings of Mushihimesama Futari?
Re: Heartwarming moments in shmups? (spoilers)
The ending of RayStorm Extra Mode where the post-credits scene shows you were responsible for knocking the enemy planet out of orbit and sending it into a gas giant which then incinerated the 200 million or so people living on it on top of destroying the planet itself, all while an upbeat peppy French song is playing in the background.
Yes, the one where you discover Reco wasn't wearing any panties.xxx1993 wrote:Hey, how about the endings of Mushihimesama Futari?

xxxx1993, I'm gonna level with you just this once: why do you keep making these threads? They keep on being filled up by nothing but sarcastic responses, and it should be pretty obvious by now that 99% of the people here do not see STG as a respectable medium for character based narrative.
If you really want to talk about this sort of thing, you might want to find another forum, because this really isn't your target audience.

For me, it definitely has to be the secret FMV ending in the Sega Saturn port of Battle Garegga if you manage to no-miss the game.
Seeing Yagawa himself congratulate players for their dedication before sounding his wee-wee hole with a pocky stick for the camera truly warmed the cockles of my heart.

I know there are plenty of shmups that contain emotions. Where would you prefer I posted them? Re: Heartwarming moments in shmups? (spoilers)
Squire's point is that most people who play shmups do so because they're interested in the gameplay, the mechanics, the challenge. For the most part, the story is just there for a bit of aethestic and flavor.
For example, when you said Raiden V was better than Raiden IV because there was more story and context, you misunderstood that most people who play Raiden were doing so because of the gameplay. With your logic, if Raiden VI turned out to be a visual novel with some space battle themed QTEs, that would make it the best Raiden game ever.
That's why nobody takes you seriously when you seem to put such a heavy emphasis on the story and settings in shmups. You take the story and settings far more seriously than the devs probably ever did.

It's not a matter of what I prefer, I'm just trying to let you know honestly that 99% of the people here don't take these threads seriously.xxx1993 wrote:I know there are plenty of shmups that contain emotions. Maybe find a different forum altogether if you want to talk about this sort of thing, because nobody here is giving you anything more than sarcastic responses.
I'm not trying to be mean to you or anything, just leveling with you so you don't waste your time.

I for one am a fan of threads that promote shitposting.
On that note, I was extremely touched by the death of Hibachi in SDOJ. It felt like a real victory against those dirty whites.

That one isn't heartwarming. It was sad (and extremely gut wrenching in the Xbox 360 version) to watch. I actually cried on that one.Giest118 wrote:I for one am a fan of threads that promote shitposting.

Would like to point out that the early years of this forum were a happier time, when threads like these could exist peacefully. Then again, people like xxx1993 wouldn't be making them.

OP's threads somehow reminds me when I was joining this forum. I used to post threads like this back then, remembering old times is sure embarrassing.
