BVM monitor calibration and recapping
I have a BVM that has left corner bowing and thought about recalibrating it. Is recalibrating the same thing as making adjustments in the alignment menu? I talked to a sony technician but he won't recalibrate it unless I also have the monitor recapped. He says unless the monitor is recapped, he cannot restore the monitor to original factory calibration. How true is this and is recapping overkill in my case? The BVM image still has nice bright vibrant colors. How do you know when a monitor needs to recapped vs recalibrated?

Re: BVM monitor calibration and recapping
I'm no expert (which I don't think any of us qualify as anyway
but basically what I think he's saying is there's no point to recalibrating the monitor if something on it is broke, or close to breaking (i.e. worn capacitor(s) which are out of spec) if you're not going to tackle the root cause of the problem which is faulty hardware parts. Otherwise you're just putting a bandaid over the problem (i.e. only adjusting the service menu geometry settings – most likely extremely far out of normal-spec to get a half-way decent picture).
For me my BVM's have always been fine, but on a couple PVM's I know if I have to adjust the service menu to close to the minimum/maximum numbers to get a decent picture, and it's still not ~95% perfect, then that's telling me that I have a hardware problem which should be tackled at some point – especially if it's your main monitor you're going to use all the time.
