Have you, uh, actually played it? Is that a joke thread title? The game looks perfectly fine. If you REALLY want an integer scale you can change it in the config files.
Maybe I'm not reading the sarcasm right and it's that old internet adage that someone will always take sarcasm as the truth?

424 is the closest possible width to 16:9 240p when using an 8 pixel tile size. It scales to 1908x1080. The next size up (432) would give you 1944x1080, which is farther from 16:9 and also too big to fit on screen.

Anyway I am not even interested in the game, I just found it weird that in this day and age they would release a port on PS4 with such a low native resolution.
Afterall, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir was also a port of a PS2 game with 2D graphics but the PS4 version is natively 1920x1080 rather than 480p upscaled to 1080p.

I love the fact its created at such a low resolution similar to the Genesis counterparts. I'm just waiting for someone to find a way to get it to display on a Sony PVM in 240p

I was thinking of that, however neither the PS4, Xbox One nor Nintendo Switch would output the game in it's native resolution.AndehX wrote:I love the fact its created at such a low resolution similar to the Genesis counterparts. The PC version might be able to, I dunno.

Axiom Verge? Shovel Knight? Not weird at all for pixel art games.Lawfer wrote:Duh: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/literally-unplayablebobrocks95 wrote:Maybe I'm not reading the sarcasm right

Is there a way to tell the game to render in 4:3? Then it would be interesting to see it on a CRT.

Not a pixel art game. Most if not all pixel art games scale from a roughly 240p image. Owlboy is another good recent example. Odin Sphere would look bad at a low resolution, it's high-res 2D artwork.Lawfer wrote:Duh: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/literally-unplayablebobrocks95 wrote:Maybe I'm not reading the sarcasm right

At 1x resolution it might display on a CRT, and you'd just have a lot of overscan on the left and right. Would effectively make it 4:3?donluca wrote:Is there a way to tell the game to render in 4:3? Then it would be interesting to see it on a CRT.

Didn't know about the PixelArt thing, good thing I never bought a game made with PixelArt, don't get me wrong I don't mind lower resolutions games as long as I can get them in their native low resolution, obviously on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch that's not going to be the case.bobrocks95 wrote:Not a pixel art game. Re: Literally unplayable, Sonic Mania is upscaled from 424x2
Most likely known but figured I'd share, 4x Windowed Mode, as well as 4:3, 3:2, 16:10, 5:3 can be toggled in Dev Mode (PC ver.). I'm sure it won't appeal to many since blackbars are added
Simply go to the game location, open Settings.ini with Notepad (or similar), and add the line devMenu=y under [Game], either above / below language=0 (might appear different for diff regions, I am running in English)
EDIT: Would help to mention that this menu is accessed by pressing Esc at any time during the game. You can access level select, all cutscenes, etc., have fun, game is outstanding.

You can get a capture card. Write a program that reads the output from the card, scales the video down to 240p. Setup a PC with 240p video output. Connect that with your gaming rig and send the 240p video over to the pc with 240p output connected to the PVM and have that pc show the video on the pvm.

It looks fine to me. Even has a scanline filter, if you desire it.

The D24 has a flat screen, this is slightly curved. Unless it's the angle at which he took the picture?FinalBaton wrote:That's dopeMKL wrote:https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... ater&ifg=1donluca wrote:Is there a way to tell the game to render in 4:3? I tried hooking up my switch to my Megaview 37" and was not able to get a picture even though I changed the image to 480p and used a Tendak DAC.
Is there a trick to getting an image on these Nintendo switches to RGBHV CRTs or monitors?

I dont' get the outrage. They wanted the game to have a 16:9 240p 16 bit /32 bit era look. And it does the job incredibly well.
Even the video settings and the CRT shaders look great.
I don't know what more you could ask for, from a game trying to be a like a new *Old* game. While having good scaling as well. With the 240p base, they can design the game to simply crop out a few horizontal lines at 1080p. And then do the same at 720p, 1440p and other resolutions.
And hey, if you have a Ps4 Pro or a 4k monitor on PC. There's your chance to see what CRT shaders can look like at 4k without performance issues.
If you have a VGA crt, just use 480p and find some shader injection software that includes a scanline filter. (Literally just black out every other line). I'm sure someone could write one for ReShade if they really wanted. That'd be probably the easiest way to get a somewhat 240p like appearance.

Re: Literally unplayable, Sonic Mania is upscaled from 424x2
I can't believe I missed this topic <3

Even discounting the fact that this is the same site that hosts Digital Foundry... is there really any excuse for a video game journalist using the terms "widescreen" and "4:3" apparently without any idea what they mean? I would assume they are pretty self explanatory, but apparently notEurogamer wrote: While it's presented in widescreen, the art appears to be drawn at 424x240 - not far off from the 4:3 320x224 of the original games.

Haha, I just posted that this morning. Works flawlessly using an Extron RGB 109 Plus to convert HV sync to csync

It looks like you can achieve this without a patch. Check out the comment here:
