Gradius V can be found for cheap. I've spent many many hours with it so I think it's an excellent purchase.

Best shooter for under $10 is Layer Section (a.k.a. Galactic Attack).

Under $50 there are A LOT of great shooters, too many to list.

Thunderforce 3 & 4. And I'm impressed with the amount of love Layer Section gets. I've been humming the LS tunes to myself for months now.

Surely a good 80% or more of all console shmups (and quite a few PCBs and arcade carts) can be had for less than $50.

AirRade Air I would suggest.

Also Castle Shikigami II is a good game that is also resonably priced.

why not look at the top ten voting thread, and then look on ebay to see if you can get any of them for $50 or less?
if you wanted to know any more about each game, screens etc, try google?

Eh, it was Minzoku the one who came up with it. But steal it anyway. I doubt you'll get sued.

got to be gc ikaruga. it seems pretty cheap in most places. i've put 5 hours into it and i'vew only just about started to get the hand of the chaining and got to stage 3 once on one credit. i can see a hell of a lot of play time going into this beauty as even if you die early there's no point in a restart as it gives you the opportunity to attempt later chains that you wouldn't pracitse on a more conservative run. i haven't played another shmup sinse buying this a few weeks back...

At the right time, in the right place, you can snag up a Japanese PSone copy of DoDonPachi. ;)

Any DC shooter older than Trizeal can be picked up for less than $50 on ebay if you're patient about it.

The U.S. Raiden Project can be had for about apprx $19-40 depending on the condition. If you want proper TATE controls though, the import rev (which I own) can usually be had mint for about $50 even, give or take a few bucks.

Zach, IIRC, posted a gameshark-type code to play US Raiden Project in proper TATE with correct controls. It works fine - I've used the code many times. If you have any sort of bootdisc with cheat capabilities (and these are plentiful I'm guessing), you can TATE your US Raiden Project nicely.

Of course, there's no reason to own Raiden Project once you've got DX.
