Re: King of Dragons Japanese glitched - SOLUTION FOUND
I also have this prob of sprites vewable at the launch checks. It's due to the fact that the palette value is fixed to 0F at the boot for this game, like Mega Twins and a few other.
I tried to fix that prob but I didn't succeed... but I can remove the checks screen and let a black screen instead, changing the value with more than 2.

Main issue are the missing monster sprite layers though. That's the part you should concentrate the mostLayer wrote:I also have this prob of sprites vewable at the launch checks. It's due to the fact that the palette value is fixed to 0F at the boot for this game, like Mega Twins and a few other.

Re: King of Dragons Japanese glitched - SOLUTION FOUND
Hi Layer, thanks for sharing your patches. I have a desuicided KoD board with the World version patches, and I can confirm the missing Hydra tail and Red Dragon body. I tried out your patches tonight (KoD jap 910805 for B-Board 90629B-3) and I played up to the Hydra boss. Unfortunately the tail was missing as well.Layer wrote:Yes, it issystem11 wrote:I'm fine with that if it's just the images required and not a full set.Only the roms to replace. As it's not done at Dead Battery Society, I did them. I hope that they would help.
Depending of your B-board, choose the right one.

If someone can try those and tell us if the missing tails are visible!

You have to hack the the hell out of those roms and I think the pal/gal as well. I have a set that gets it to the point where the only glitch is in the end credits using a 90629B-3 B board. Not sure how to share it here.

I didn't know Hydra had a body, I believed it was only their necks or tails.jepjepjep wrote:Hi Layer, thanks for sharing your patches. I think I can fix that with a VB patch, or maybe the pal/gal sprites/scrolls range is not complete, I will try.

Don't know. I guess I'd need an OK from an admin to link to roms?

Muchi Muchi Spork where are you?
I bought the game again desuicided as I couldn't find a copy on battery all this time and Hydra's tail is missing again. Awesome game! If it only looked properly! Is there someone with a properly decrypted set? I would pay for replacement roms with a proper desuicided fix that would display Hydra and red Dragon with their bodies.
Thanks

Now you can revive them and use the original roms.
I assume it would fix those issues.
Haven't done mine yet though.

Yes you are right but my boards uses a C board from Street Fighter 2 which didn't have a battery in the first place and I don't know if someone can put a battery there...parodius wrote:Now you can revive them and use the original roms.

Quite likely if it's a B-21 C board.Green beret wrote:Yes you are right but my boards uses a C board from Street Fighter 2 which didn't have a battery in the first place and I don't know if someone can put a battery there...parodius wrote:Now you can revive them and use the original roms.

Re: King of Dragons Japanese glitched - Begging for a proper
I forgot to make clear that I am waiting in mail King of Dragons to come. From a picture when bought it I can tell, for desuiciding it has been used a C board with no battery from factory. The rest of the board is original King of Dragons. I can't tell if it's a B-21 C board from that picture though. It's blury and low res.parodius wrote:Quite likely if it's a B-21 C board.Green beret wrote:Yes you are right but my boards uses a C board from Street Fighter 2 which didn't have a battery in the first place and I don't know if someone can put a battery there...parodius wrote:Now you can revive them and use the original roms.

In worst case scenario I have to buy a Kabuki programmer and someone has to provide me ready already burnt roms from mame code, with payment of course. I could use my captain commando's C board (have to move Captain Commando original sticker without destroying it), while it needs to be restored to battery too.
This scenario is very complicated to become true.

I truly don't like the Kabuki programmer solution, you have to put again a battery that sooner or later will die and eject lithium all over the board. The phoenix is a permanent and clean solution.Green beret wrote:In worst case scenario I have to buy a Kabuki programmer and someone has to provide me ready already burnt roms from mame code, with payment of course. Coin cell batteries such as the ones used on CPS1 C boards almost never have this issue. I have yet to see one myself.distropia wrote:you have to put again a battery that sooner or later will die and eject lithium all over the board. The phoenix is a permanent and clean solution.

I can send you some pictures of C boards corroded that way. As you point out is very rare but it happens. Anyways, if they don't spill lithium they die and the game is rendered again unusable, so we're not on a permanent solution. We're helping the planned obsolescence. nonono.parodius wrote:Coin cell batteries such as the ones used on CPS1 C boards almost never have this issue. i still have hopes that user "layer" kept the right phoenix patch
is one of my favourite games and impossible to finish without being able to see the final dragon

Re: King of Dragons Japanese glitched - Begging for a proper
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was recently asked to revive a King of Dragons (World set, 910711, 27C010 EPROMs) which had suicided then been de-suicided with the relevant details and binaries on the Dead Battery Society site. Maybe the following info will be of use.
This boardset also had the problems mentioned in this thread such as the Hydra's tail being missing.
Using an Arduino Uno and the instructions here:
http://arcadehacker.blogspot.co.uk/2015 ... pdate.html
I reversed the C board custom chip mods, re-programmed the original code into four 27C010 EPROMs, added a new battery and re-programmed the C board with the key file from the Arduino. I then tested the game up to the Hydra and all is fine - the tail is back!

That's great new, IronGiant! Thanks for the info. To follow along the question posed earlier by Green beret, if you have a SFII:CE c-board, one that originally did not include a battery, is it dangerous to hook up a battery and try to program the encryption keys?

Re: King of Dragons Japanese glitched - Begging for a proper
I assume you're referring to a board that has had a battery removed, C board modded and some EPROMs replaced? If so then all of those changes would need to first be reversed (and a new battery added) before a new key could be uploaded. You wouldn't want to hook up a battery to the C board before the wire mod had been removed and cut pins restored.jepjepjep wrote:That's great new, IronGiant! Thanks for the info. As for boards that NEVER had a battery then, of course, you wouldn't need to upload a key.
As an aside, the Arduino Uno can also be used to re-upload keys to pre-CPS1, CPS1.5 and CPS2 boards. So far I've only done CPS1 and CPS2 but it's a similar procedure for either, mainly just different connection points for the Arduino.
