“Mr. President, I encourage you to try to bring us together as a nation after this horrific event in Charlottesville. Your words are dividing Americans, not healing them.”

*************

“Through his statements yesterday, President Trump took a step backward by again suggesting there is moral equivalency between the white supremacist neo-Nazis and KKK members who attended the Charlottesville rally and people like Ms. Heyer. I, along with many others, do not endorse this moral equivalency.

“Many Republicans do not agree with and will fight back against the idea that the Party of Lincoln has a welcome mat out for the David Dukes of the world.

“Finally, my thoughts and prayers will be the family and friends of Ms. Heyer as they remember and honor her today.”
Here's a quote by a lamestream media reporte.... uuh, I mean Republican Senator.

Lindsey Graham, opponent of the RAISE Act and one of the least popular senators in the country. The "Party of Lincoln" line was also a nice touch of humor...
I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, [applause]-that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.

The point is this is not a left vs. right issue, as you alluded to in your earlier comment about mainstream media bullshit.

At least get the actual quote, and put it in context. Also, keep in mind that this was 1858. It was a bit different back then.

...No I didn't. This is a truth vs. half-truth issue, and Trump got it right. It's a left vs. right issue to the media and to anyone downplaying the involvement of counter-protesters.
brokenhalo wrote:At least get the actual quote, and put it in context.
OK, here you go. If this is in fact the correct version, the sentiments expressed are identical. The Party of Lincoln:
I will say here, while upon this subject, that I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so. I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and the black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position.

To race warriors, it's very much inline with their personal reality.

It's great we've cleared up that the made up word "globalist" is indeed a synonym for "Jewish" after all. Not sure how things will be any better with "white" Illuminati capitalist banker overlords in power, though.

And it is surreal to see republican politicians push back against their base like this. Can't see how that helps their prospects in their primaries any - as we've seen a million times no normal plebeian votes GOP for austerity and helping Mr.Burns take their money; if it's not about guns or abortion, it's to make some other group of people's lives worse. Everyone knows which side they're on and this isn't anything different from Reagan or Bush 2.

When are we going to start ramping up our torture program, again? Have we already done so, but I just missed it because of all the other distractions blasting us every which way?

Cenk and Mischief win, poll is up. Yes or no. No maybes. No takebacks. No cowards on this one.

This could indeed be the nadir, though as always I believe there is always more and it's always worse.

The amount of damage this would do to their brand with their base... it would be like a knife into the neck of Ronald Reagan Himself.

Just read about some history-erasing, white genocide-supporting cuck snowflake who didn't want Confederate monuments erected or battlefields marked, and also hoped the Confederate flag would vanish after the Civil War; his name was...eh, Robert E. Andrew Jackson vehemently opposed central banking and Abraham Lincoln wanted to deport blacks back to Africa. Also, MLK was against gay marriage and told American soldiers to stop fighting in Vietnam. Last but not least, MacArthur determined that we "defeated the wrong enemy" in WW2.

If there is one thing Americans as a whole can be safely accused of, it's choosing to ignore the parts of history that don't make them feel good.

In any case, I'm against the destruction of history period, so I find myself against the wishes of the late General Lee, at the expense of making sure the future doesn't forget him or the war that he fought in.

Frederick Douglass explained to Lincoln that black people didn't want to move to Africa and Lincoln went "oh?" and never brought it up again after learning something new.

MLK was an old geezer living in the 60's and didn't murder any Bernie Sanders supporters with his car. He did, however, get shot in the fucking face for trying to get a raise for some Garbage Men.

We can replace the KKK statues in front of court houses with statues of video game characters or ponies. There's also a very nice Baphomet statue always at the ready, I hear. You can sit in his lap and take selfies with the dark lord.

That's some classy old-time heritage, not hate.

Yeah, then he had the bright idea of sending them to English colonies.

Moreover, if black people didn't want to move back to Africa, one must ask why. General Lee had an idea:
There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil. It is idle to expatiate on its disadvantages. I think it is a greater evil to the white than to the colored race. While my feelings are strongly enlisted in behalf of the latter, my sympathies are more deeply engaged for the former. The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, physically, and socially. The painful discipline they are undergoing is necessary for their further instruction as a race, and will prepare them, I hope, for better things.

A real mystery as to why nearly all those 4th or so generation slaves, half-beaten to death for expressing the resemblance of an uppity cogent thought, would not want to be shipped halfway around the world on a perilous voyage to a place they had no conception of, other than the vaguest notions of "where they came from", with no resources or help, separated from all family and kinship and sense of place. Perhaps it was, as quash intimates through the venerable R.E.Lee, that they were too fucking stupid to know how good they had it.

As usual, I can count on this forum to miss the point entirely. Some things never change.

Since I doubt anyone's gonna talk about it, I'll just say it outright: we have been lied to for our entire lives about the history of our country. The Union wasn't on a virtuous mission to free all the slaves and integrate them into society; quite the opposite, in fact. They mostly just wanted to teach the Confederacy a lesson. And the Confederacy was likely going to abolish slavery eventually anyways; if not for moral reasons, for economic ones (unpaid labor doesn't make for the most productive workforce, as it turns out, plus the incoming industrialization would have rendered it obsolete). Abraham Lincoln was literally more racist than Robert E. Lee, we've just chosen to rearrange the context of the era to conveniently fit our own.

This goes back further than the Civil War and extends to the present day. The American education system has failed every last one of its subjects; and if I didn't know any better, I'd say it's been on purpose.

Right on cue, VICEIS condones blowing up Mt. Rushmore.

This isn't going to stop at monuments and it's only going to get worse.

I can see it now: "Why uphold a Constitution written by white, cis-het slave owners? It's time for a worker's revolution".

IT GETS BETTER
Editor's note: The headline on this story has been updated. We do not condone violence in any shape or form, and the use of "blow up" in the original headline as a rhetorical device was misguided and insensitive. We apologize for the error.
"Error", lol. Sure.

The Onion should throw in the towel; "real" journalists are doing their job better than they are at this point.

Because, damn, it sure seems like I'm the only one that does. The American left sure as hell doesn't seem to remember their reaction to it.

Christ, you're so dramatic. Do you picture yourself giving this as a speech to your corps of most trusted men, captain quash?

Well I studied some US civil war at 'high school'. Over here we were taught both angles and encouraged to debate it.
And ask questions like why were those statues erected in the first place?
I'll borrow your favourite line: educate yourselves.

Also yeah swastika squad are definitely turning up to 'protect history'

Your mixture of paranoia and ability to oversimplify literally everything, as well as your consistent assurances that nobody gets the points that you never make is pretty special... but the fact that you're on a neighborhood-sized war machine armed to the teeth makes me question our existence.

Oh! Well I guess that makes betraying the United States totally justified! Not at all the dictionary definition of treason.

I can't wait to hear your defense of Benedict Arnold!

All this talk about southern heritage makes me wonder why nobody talks about Northern Heritage. Specifically the United States soldiers whose children were left orphaned due to the orders to kill them that came down the chain of command from Lee so he could continue the human atrocity that made him filthy rich.
