Beovision MX 4000 TATE settings and other problems

Post by nico »

Hello guys,
I'm Nico, pleasure to meet you and congratulations for the very interesting forum.
I decided to write to you to see if you can help me on a "small tvc question". Two weeks ago I purchased (also encouraged by the opinions found in this forum and in the youtube's video of Fagin and Futurematt) a 21" tvc BEOVISION MX 4000 (with Beo4 remote controller) which i would use especially with Saturn and PS2 in TATE mode for vertical shooter.
Ok, after that, I started with the picture adjustments and geometry through the service menu, but now, after having spent more and more hours, I have not yet achieved the best result of the image (from the videos on youtube instead of Futurematt it seems that the image can be adjusted in an optimal way). Can any of you advise me (also via PM) to enter the correct setting parameters, especially HPH, HAM, VAM (amplitude), EWC (corner) EWP (parabola) and EWT (tilt)? Have i to manage on other factors (chassis, tube, or others), as well as on the service menu? I also wanted to understand:
1) The anti-glare screen is better to remove it? The image would result in improved?
2) I noticed that the left and right sides of the screen (in a normal position, not TATE mode), there appear a lights "circular waves" in the image, which extend for nearly 5 cm; these waves are reduced fiddling with the parameters of geometry, but never disappear altogether. You know what I can do to eliminate them or is it a defect of the TV?
3) Another thing that I noticed, in TATE mode, the scanlines tend to fade gradually toward the center of the screen, and then return to the top. I have tried various games (Gunbird, Layer Section, DDPachi Dai Ou Jou ect.), I tried to adjust the brilliance and contrast of the image, but the effect does not change! Is it normal or, if not, what can depend on?
Surely this B&O MX 4000 is a TV with the undoubted potential (although, having to be honest, the overall image quality is inferior to my other Sony Trinitron, where among other things I have not had to adjust anything. Screen and perfectly sharp images and centered from the beginning, absolutely great for 240p games resolution) but right now, given the results, I'm somewhat disappointing :?. I state that the Beovision I purchased it in good condition, still with original packaging, and has never been repaired or altered. The previous owner sold it because he wanted to move to a LCD :) ...
Can any of you help me?
Byezzz

Im still to see someone really impressed with a Beovision MX 4000 crt tv, besides matt, who seems to have an great unit, and very well calibrated. But for me, i still say this, compared to any sony trinitron, or even my old Samsung i just can't play games on this B&O. Still a great think to have in living room, the wife love is style 8)

Well, I think (I hope) that it's just a matter of setting the correct image geometry... anyway, the visual quality of my Sony Trinitron KV 21LS320V (model with silver chassis) with regard to purity of image and correctness of it's geometry, both with material that 240p or 480i (almost imperceptible flicker on 480i, and i assure you that I've tried dozens of CRT, including a pair of arcade monitor Hantarex) is currently unreachable!
However, the B&O I wanted to still use for the vertical shooter in TATE mode, given it's ease to rotate...How can i contact Futurematt? Maybe you could give me some suggestions to resolve the question, prior to checking tvc in the garage ...

Hi. Nico, I must say I am exactly with you on this. I too bought an MX4000 during the week and have messed about with the picture, only to be left dissatisfied. I must add that I needed to mess about with the geometry, otherwise I would of left it! At this point my Trinitron is still the best screen to use, it just seriously lacks (decent) scanlines! Which is why I tried the MX4000.

I, like Nico would like to to know the best geom settings for the MX4000, if anybody can share theirs? I.e VAM, Vsc etc. A test card would be great to set against the geom settings, but I don't think there is one, is there?

I just purchased a UMSA so hope to get the MX4000 sorted before it arrives :-))
Love the site & forum guys!!!

Ma dai, no decent scanlines on the Sony Trinitron? It's strange! How your model? The B&O scanlines, although good, are not comparable to those of my Trinitrons, and i assure you that I have tried many crt (Sanyo, Blaupunkt, Philips ecc.). I miss the Bvm or Pvm monitor, but not found here in Veneto.

I have some more information on this.... but yet had chance to get explain the differences on video to compare the two models of MX I now have (yes there are several different models even within the same range).

Fagin, that sounds interesting. Will wait for that then. Don't tell me I need another model type. I think my mrs has had enough of CRT's! :)

Just to add my four penith.. I have two of these, and I have to say, really not as good as my Trinitrons...

I find the focus on my two BO's really soft. I have have a momentary switch fitted to both, to jump both into service mode, but am a bit unsure where to go from there.. I think also they need some potentio tweaking but not really sure where they are on this set (it's so compact)....

If both of your MX's are not with the chassis that enables Service Menu access via the remote (i.e. you need to bridge the jumper on the chassis to gain access), there lies your problem with why you are stating the image is not as good as your Sony's. Whilst I don't want to "shoot my bolt" without getting my video up to explain, I've personally found a quality difference in image between chassis types. With the chassis requiring the jumper to be of lesser quality (image wise) to the chassis that can have the service menu asccessed via the remote.
