Raspberry Pi on a CRT.

Post by LordBarker »

Hi all,

Just picked up a Pi 3. I'm looking to run it exclusively on my CRT, to get a nice 240p image, since most of my console/arcade stuff needs to be stored for the next year or so due to space where I'm living at the mo.

I'm very familiar with emulation on the PC but just wanted to ask, would getting an RGB-Pi lead and putting on an image of Recalbox be all that I need to achieve what I want? So basically I could just plug the scart from RGB-Pi into my Sony CRT? I know Pi2SCART is available, but I'm unsure which is best and potentially least fiddly.

I'm aware of the 1600 trick too, but wondered what provided the best setup? Or shoudl I just slink off to a modded Wii for 240p on older stuff? :)

Cheers

You usually start out with one of the premodified images from RetroTink or RGB-Pi. The timing mods are not incredibly difficult and once you get the hang of it, you can take them over to any Retropie, Recalbox, Batocera Linux or Lakka distribution.

The good thing about the RGB-Pi cable is that you get audio from the GPIO pins as well. Pi2Scart and RetroTink use the analogue output or require you to add another USB audio dongle.
