A user at [H]ardforum has designed a 4K TV that can run 120Hz at that resolution via two Display Port connectors. It will also do 1080p at 240Hz and 540p at 480Hz. Okay, so "designed a TV" is a little far, from what I've read it appears that he designed for panels and monitors before, and he has figured out how a certain line of panels communicates, and designed an FPGA that supercedes things on a fundamental level.
He's already sent it out to Linus at Linus Tech Tips, so it's more than just a proof of concept. https://twitter.com/LinusTech/status/895030483859292164
But wait, there's more! </Mays>
He's looking at a latency of about 30 microseconds. Yes I said microseconds. He is trying to gauge demand to make a run of the boards, but I am unsure if he is planning to install these himself or make the boards alone available. 4k, 120Hz. 1080p, 240Hz. Want 540p? How about 480Hz?

that's very interesting, hopefully all the other parts of the display are taken into account like gray to gray response uniformity RGB color accuracy and all that stuff. any information on what type of panel it is? (I'm assuming it's an LCD panel. is it TN, IPS, VA or something else?)

All the panel part numbers are listed in the thread. TFT for some, TN for others. 100% sRGB coverage.Blair wrote:that's very interesting, hopefully all the other parts of the display are taken into account like gray to gray response uniformity RGB color accuracy and all that stuff. any information on what type of panel it is? I'm curious what the kits will cost. There's a compatible TV kicking around nearby me, think I'll pick it up while waiting for this.
