Android shmups?
Any games you guys can recommend? There is so much crap on the Play Store I don't even know where to start.

inheritage boundaries of existence
Re: Android shmups?
Best vertical: Danmaku Unlimited 2...seems 3 is hitting soon
Best hori: Darius Burst SP
If you're feeling experimental, there's this pretty decent mashup: Arkanoid vs Space Invaders
...and if you're not allergic to f2p:
STRIKERS 1945 World War...Strikers, Gunbird and Tengai in one game, good fun imo
Galaga Wars

Strikers 1999, DDP Resurrection.
The unreleased FC Salamander remake is quite good too, you can even buy every ship upgrades without paying.

Playing Salamander as well. And I think the CAVE games are only available on iOS, I tried searching the Google Store and none of them are available (if they were then they're probably delisted).copy-paster wrote:Strikers 1999, DDP Resurrection.

Re: Android shmups?
Yep, all Cave stuff got delisted from (western?) Google Store:(
And because it seems nobody pirated it...poof, it's gone. Welcome to the dark side of digital distribution
What do you think of AvSI? Seems not many cared to try it...

I'm still pissed that you can't play the Cave releases on android anymore. We were able to play them for what...a year, sometimes around 2014, and that's it. Too bad no one managed/cared to hack those games to be free of that crap Ggee whatever interface
On the other hand, OP, you can install Retroarch in your android device, an play pretty much any Cave shmup, except the last ones (SH3 hardware). And even those can probably be played on something like a Galaxy S8..maybe (if someone actually tries those games on such a device, please post feedback).

Re: Android shmups?
apxsoft's Psikyo ports (so far only tried Strikers 1945 Original) stutters like hell as if I'm playing a j2me era shmup.
There's Android port of RayCrisis is coming tomorrow.

and iirc the cave shmups were removed from the play store as they were supposedly incompatible with new firmware updates

Yep, same situation as the Ikaruga android port.harrytasker wrote:I have an S8, I'd be willing to tryel_rika wrote:I'm still pissed that you can't play the Cave releases on android anymore. yeah, the official ports are removed and forever gone from playstore.
You can, however, play any Cave shmup (including the last ones like Mushihimesama, Espgaluda 2, Ibara, Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu) using Retroarch and Mame 2016 core (+ roms). On my Note 3, Mushihimesama for example runs decent in the menus and at the begining of the stage, but it slows down terribly (under 50% speed) when stuff starts to get hectic on screen. On a S8 it should run like butter.
Try it buddy.

Re: Android shmups?
Try the free android shmup called Tiny STG (taken from the same name of the actual TIny STG port that runs on the Tiny Arcade hardware setup). The control scheme is more slicker and your fightercraft can move much faster with a touch screen interface (than if you were to use the old-school method of an 8-way digital joystick scheme).
The really cool thing is the actual hitbox is the tiny red square located within your fightercraft (if a bullet hits any part of your fightercraft other than that particular hitbox area, you won't die).
By grabbing six or seven of those red colored diamond power-ups, your shots can get powered up quite insane.

Re: Android shmups?
On my Samsung smartphone setup running Android 4.1.1 (yes, that's the particular Android OS that the infamous Heartbleed exploit program was known to infect back in the day), I do have the Android G-Gee apps of Dodonpachi Resurrection, Espgaluda II Lite (demo version), Espgaluda II (Full game) & Deathsmiles Lite (demo version) that are still 100% playable "offline" to this day considering that it's 2017 (I just don't have the smartphone access wi-fi or use cell phone data service to have them updated when playing them -- if that was done, then they'd be no longer playable). So it's still possible to have them modified and running without the G-Gee interface. Get in contact with me if you want to see about getting those official Android Cave shmup apps changed.el_rika wrote:harrytasker wrote:I have an S8, I'd be willing to tryel_rika wrote:I'm still pissed that you can't play the Cave releases on android anymore.
