I attended the cool Griffin Aerotech's Skycurser talk + Q & A session that was held afterwards on July 29th, 2017, Saturday night's presentation at the 21st California Extreme classic arcade game & pinball game show.
A DVD of that Skycurser presentation is now available for those whom missed it or for your own Skycurser perusal. Skycurser producer, Phil Golobish, leads the talk about how Skycurser came to be and reveals future plans for it down the road. There's more than meets the eye with Griffin Aerotech's AirFrame arcade jamma pcb platform that runs Skycurser -- find out what the future holds for it within the arcade community.
I suggest a reasonable small donation per DVD copy (with full-size DVD case with front cover insert included) is worth the trouble to get it documented & preserved for posterity. After reviewing the resulting Skycurser talk + Q&A session DVD myself today, it's flawless and looking quite razor-sharp. If you'd like a copy, feel free to PM me and we'll go on from there. Total run time is at 55 minutes and 3 seconds in it's entirety. Will ship worldwide.
It is presented in 4:3 aspect ratio format for that old-school look in terms of overall presentation (and will equally at be home if viewed on an old-school 4:3 CRT based TV monitor setup with scanlines for bonus points). Audio is presented in stereo with Dolby Digital format at 48kHz. Chapter marks are spaced at every 3 minute intervals, so it's really easy to fast forward if so desired -- a grand total of 15 chapters in all.
You might recall at the 2016 CAX show, it was Skycurser 2D sprite artist/art director, Christopher Cruz, whom gave an interesting talk about it as well. Fascinating stuff indeed. I'll get a DVD made of that cool 1st Skycurser talk as well. Might as well make this as a dedicated two DVD disc set of Skycurser then.

Yep, the Skycurser pcb was shown again for the second time at the 2017 CAX show on Saturday afternoon (July 29th, 2017) and into the wee hours of Sunday morning until 2am (July 30th, 2017). I gave it a spin more than once -- but at some odd times, it'd crash and reset itself/reboot back to the main copyright screen/main title screen/demo cycle. Four stages with end-stage bosses + 2 player co-op capability to do battle with this second time around. The SC pcb does have built-in NV Ram, so thus saving of high scores and high score initials for posterity is done -- they even reappear if powered down for the night and rebooted back up the next morning. How cool is that?

I don't understand. They are selling physical DVD copies of a promotional Q&A session, rather than just uploading it on YouTube? Is this some obscure attempt to build up hype? These things aren't going to be collector's items.

They're not selling it. OP attended the session and created a DVD out of it including box art etc. He's saying that if anyone would like a copy they can donate something to him and he'll send it out.Sumez wrote:I don't understand. It's literally an off the shelf PC with an Ultimarc J-Pac. Not really a PCB by any stretch. Save games are written onto the flash drive.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:The SC pcb does have built-in NV Ram, so thus saving of high scores and high score initials for posterity is done -- they even reappear if powered down for the night and rebooted back up the next morning. I really don't think we should shit on their effort. I know this is dividing a lot of people, but at least it keeps JAMMA alive a little bit longer

If they wanted to "keep JAMMA alive", they'd actually design a JAMMA board, not stick a damn JPAC in front of a PC.

Ultimarc is what's keeping JAMMA alive, not Griffin Aerotech (aside from having bought JPACs in bulk and helping to keep Ultimarc doing what they do). And honestly that only counts if you consider "PC with JPAC attached to it" and "keeping JAMMA alive" the same thing.zak wrote:I really don't think we should shit on their effort.
