It was.

If you look just below the pics of the flyer, there's a link to what is most likely that awful music they were playing. I'm too smart to listen to find out.

Just seen the new mail from Excellent, Pink Sweets is being released on 20th April according to them. *Sigh* another expensive month on the cards.

Yeah, preorders -- I think I'll pass this time. I still can't get that damn song out of my head.

On a similar not, someone on 2ch posted some impressions of the game (after a credit-feed clear). I'm too lazy (and now busy) to post a link. You can find it in the forums (link in the news interface on any page of my site).

Just played Pink Sweets in Shibuya Taito Station today (as well as the excellent Espgaluda 2) and thought it was really good.

A lot more Cave than Raizing, and the shieldy thing that absorbs bullets is a really nice mechanic.

I really like the new graphical style too - really sharp and smooth.

Any news on a PS2 release?

Isn't it? Must be a location test in Shibuya then: so no chance of a PS2 version for a while.

They've not even announced ESPGaluda yet, and probably won't for at least another couple of months. Pink Sweets is out in April, so don't expect anything until about 5 months after that.

In the back of the Ibara OST booklet, on the last two pages, there is larger, crisper, clearer versions of the character artwork for the new look Rose sisters.

For those who haven't seen it, I've scanned it right here. ^_-

It certainly does not look like Kotani's handywork this time around.
(Lace looks stunning here, though.)

Pink Sweets OST announced for 11/20/2006.

http://www.cave.co.jp/gcommerce/CVST-00 ... -0005.html

Can't say I'm interested in this, but maybe some of you here are. This game doesn't exactly have the greatest soundtrack.

Pink Sweets System Information @ STGWIKI.
Anyone up for a quick translation? Babelfish and Infoseek don't want to touch the full page, and it's a pain going through it a paragraph at a time.
A rank rise element
* I rank it as so that there is much number of the cracker use and rise(A decision)
* I rank it as so that there is much number of the shot discharge and rise(A decision)
* When it powers up a special, it is a rise by time(A decision)
* If play time is long, it is a rise(Is it a decision?)
* It rises by collection of a power-up item(Is it a decision?)
* When it maintains a shield MAX state, it is a rise(Is it a decision?)
* It rises whenever I change formation of the rose hips(Is it a decision?)
* It rises even if I do anything

A rank drop element
* I take a ground rose item(Is it a decision?)
* I drop 10,000 points of decorations(Is it a decision?)
* I drop 1UP(Is it a decision?)
* I die(Is it a decision?)
* I make it 残機 0
This is what I can make out from the mess above (most points appear to be speculative):

Rank Increases:
* Shots fired, based on number of bullets (Garegga-ish)
* Set increase amount for Bomb usage
* Set increase from getting a Special Power Up
* Rank per frame? Rank level maintained across credits, with decreases based on attract mode cycling? (Similar to Batrider/Garegga)
* Rank increased for each frame of aura charge? (speculative)

Rank Decreases:
* Collection of ground-based Rose Medals?
* Dropping maximum value Medals? (speculative)
* Dropping Extends? (speculative)
* Dying? (I'd wager that this is one of the key rank decrease techniques)
* (What's the last one? Dying with no lives left?)

EDIT: Found another system info page. This player has a screenshot of what appears to be a 10mil ALL score.

Too jet-lagged to match Icarus' lines w/ the original:

Rank Increase:
-The more times the cracker is used (confirmed)
-The more times the shot is fired (confirmed)
-In accordance with time while using a special power up (confirmed)
-Raises with time (confirmed?)
-When acquiring power up items (confirmed?)
-When holding the shield at max (confirmed?)
-Every time player changes to Rose Hip formation (confirmed?)
-Whenever player does anything (confirmed?)

Rank Decrease:
-When gathering rose items (confirmed?)
-When player drops 10,000 pt emblem (confirmed?)
-When player drops 1 UP item (confirmed?)
-Death (confirmed?)
-When remains equal 0

I think "drops" actually means "doesn't pick up" in this sense. Also looks like most are not confirmed.

This is very very gay. I don't have enough hours in the day to fuck around waiting for rank to decrease.

You might want to note the question mark.
Rank across credits might not even be a feature, it didn't appear to be with Ibara. And given that a portion of the points come from bullet-eating, a rank reset each credit would be more likely to maintaining scoring balance.

Anyone know how much the PCB is being sold for at the moment?

For a game that's supposedly "unpopular", it is still quite expensive. o_O
I'll have to wait a bit longer, I guess.

It's likely Cave knew that it wouldn't be such a hit, and pressed a fraction of their usual print run.

Just a hunch.

It did stay in Arcadia's top 20 for quite a few months. Some peeps here seem like they're starting to think a game automatically sucks if it doesn't have the popularity of a a game like Mushi. What, the price of a PCB drops below $500 over a year after release? Must automatically be a crap game.

I'm actually really interested in this game (as you've probably guessed). $1000 is still quite expensive for someone on my current budget, unfortunately. So I'm waiting for a price drop, or someone to decide they've had enough of it and will dispense with their kit for $400. ^_-

EDIT: More info on the Pink Sweets OST. Two discs - Original and Arranged - and release date is now 4th Dec. '06.

Yeah, I think Cave should get some props for bringing in another game director besides IKD, especially one as talented and respected as S. Yagawa. I understand that there are currently a lot more active players into IKD's games rather than older Raizing stuff. The appeal of Ibara and Pink Sweets is limited to a smaller niche of players, but for those players these new games are really something to look forward to.

Most people (well, me anyway, Icy, NTSC-J, etc.) said it was crap after paying it. And, as before, doesn't really have as much to do w/ popularity as one would think. ESPGaluda II was a huge hit. It was in Arcadia's top 5 I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) for quite a while, yet the PCB dropped relatively fast.

As far as I can tell, yourself, Icy and NTSC-J are pretty much opposed to anything Raizing-style, so the "crap" comment is kind of subjective. People said Ibara was crap as well, but I've found it to be the most fun I've had with a Cave game since Guwange, and just as entertaining as any Raizing game ever made.

And if I had played Pink Sweets when it was freshly released in the arcades, I'd probably say it was "fucking awesome" to everyone here, and that would be subjective too. ^_-

Crap or no, it's still a gameplay style that appeals to me, so I'm naturally interested in it. C'mon... price drop!

Response from a lot of the European players like DEL, Plasmo and Neverland etc. seemed completely positive.
