VARTH graphical problems (US board)

Post by Sir Arthur ahf »

Hello guys,

Have a problem with a Varth PCB

Apparently it was ok when the seller checked it before shipping (had some pics from him, nice guy)

It was well protected but the thing is that when I got the PCB this is what I can see...

Any ideas?

Varth is a CPS Dash, so can I try the A board of a CPS-I?

Cheers,

- Art

Most likely C-BOARD committed suicide. For first measure voltage of the CR2032.Even if you can read +3 Volt, it could be still suicided.Try to revive it with the old procedure or using the Eduado Cruz desuicider.

If it has no battery backed-up C-BOARD check the connection between A-BOARD and B-BOARD.

If it's not the A-board it's most probably a bad C-board. One from Final Fight should be compatible.

It uses the CPS-B-04 ASIC on C-BOARD.If you don't have another same C-BOARD, PM me and I will explain how to use a CPS-B-21 instead.
Anyway, as I sad, check also connection between A-BOARD (I didn't sayd the A-BOARD itself) and C-BOARD, have faith in me with thousands of repaired arcade boards!

If the markings on the CPS-B- ICs are identical that would be an indication that the problem is not on the C-board.

There's a Final Fight version with a different CPS-B:

If he uses another C-BOARD with the CPS-B-04 ASIC there is few to discuss about, that Final Fight with scrathed off ASIC marking is rare to come across. So, please post here a picture of your B-BOARD with the hardware revision silkscreening readable as well picture of the C-BOARD witt the ASIC marking readable.

Well, C-BOARD are the same so you swapped the good one of Final Fight and it still doesn't work, the fault is elsewhere. So, as suggested, try a good A-BOARD.If it still doesn't work, the problem is on B-BOARD.Does the game still play although with bad graphics or it crashes? If it crashes, you should check the two program ROM as well their sockets.Judging from your faults, I don't think the four GFX MASK ROMs could be the cause but dump them anyway.Anyway, I can say I had a similar problem on Varth, problem was bad connection between A-BOARD and B-BOARD.

P.S.
Check also the PAL @1A, it generates the /OE signal for GFX MASK ROMs.

Yes, I will send you a few pics later. There are more colours but the image gets "dirty"

@Caius; which A boards can I use? Any other CPS game?

Apparently the problem is with the B one

I have tried the A one w/ Final Fight and works fine

You can barely play the game but not crashes
