With all these copyrights they have to infringe to fit in all the pop culture references, will the movie only play in Chinese theatres?

Liar. I've known you only from latexmachomen.com and pantysniffers.org forums.

Looks pretty meh. I read the book, and while it was a "fun" read, the pains it went to to pay homage to every 80's pop culture reference on the planet was tiring. It was like Daicon IV with a children's dystopia theme.

Looks rubbish.

"Cinematic game changer Steven Spielberg"... What a disservice.

It's a pretty dumb way of putting it, but you'd be hard pressed to argue that he isn't a major game changer to mainstream cinema. He has so many iconic movie titles under his belt that it would be an equal disservice just to present him with "from the director of...".

edit: sorry if that paragraph turned out really confusing :S English is obviously not my first language

He was a 'game changer' and I see the gaming tongue-in-cheek nod they're going for with it; but at the same time he's achieved much more than that and there are so many different possible ways to illustrate his prowess as a director.

That said his hallmark had been fading over the decades. I couldn't find much of Spielberg in the BFG at all except for a competently made family movie. Otherwise there was very little distinction between it and standard Hollywood big budget fare of such ilk.

I think I read somewhere that instead of even trying to obtain all the necessary copyrights they're changing everything out of their reach into IPs already owned by WB and associates, thus robbing the film of the book's main source of fun.

On a sidenote: The Comic Con Trailer for the new Duck Tales series looks appalling. It might possibly be saved by good writing, but I don't really get my hopes up, as the original series is a hard act to follow in this regard.

They're making a new Duck Tales?

Edit: ok just watched the teaser.

That is perhaps the most PERFECT example, if you put the original side-by-side, of absolutely everything that is shit about just about everything today. If nothing else, I thank them for going to such lengths to illustrate that fact.

The teaser is enough though, they needent waste their time doing a whole series.
