I got a BVM-1910 recently, and it looks great with the internal crosshatch generator. It won't sync, either to external sync nor to internal sync (component Y, SoG RGB, nor Composite Video). All combinations of (logic buffered sync | 75ohm-driving sync | "raw" sync | luma) and (internal | external) have been tried. This same setup on another BVM-1910 worked fine in the past, so I am ruling out a connection issue.
With external TTL-level sync, I can get it to synchronize temporarily, and see a nice image. After a few seconds though, it'll begin to roll vertically. It's not a constant roll, and it doesn't occupy the whole screen. It is what it looks like when V-hold is just slightly off. This monitor does not have a V-hold adjustment, however, internal nor external.
Finally, after a bit of warming up, a nasty smell kind of like old fish comes out of it. It is the same smell as when replacing capacitors on a worn game gear. A nasty, familiar electrolytic smell.
I pulled out the cards, and the input card has the shitty SMT caps that I am familiar seeing with a little corrosion and that capacitor smell. I will consider recapping it. First, though, I will scope out the V. SYNC output from that card, because I don't suspect that card at the moment.
There is also the board labeled "BJ", which I will scope out as well. I am just waiting on an extender card. Between those two boards, that's where I expect to find the issue.
I pulled out the power supply. It all looks good, except that there was some oily goo on the PCB (still wet, I wonder what spilled ages ago). When wiped off it has a brownish-green color, pretty gross. I cleaned the best I could between the parts, but I think to really clean it I will want to desolder what's in that area, clean, and resolder those parts. After cleaning, the nasty smell was a little less pronounced. It's still rank and terrible.
If anyone has a BVM-1910 in the Bay Area, I'd love to meet up and swap a few cards around to see if I can nail down where the problem occurs.
Does anyone a BVM-1910?

Re: Does anyone a BVM-1910?
This model is identical to the BVM-2010 with the only difference being region-based marketing. I've found the service manual for that model, which helps a little bit.
If anybody has a BVM-1910 and would be up for some debug help, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey Mike,
I have one of these. I had to do a complete recap on the 3x boards on the rear. That is likely the issue. I'll PM you with my contact info.
