Note that when I optimized my palettes for D65, everyone freaked out when viewing the images on their digital displays, noting that pure whites were now semi-gold in color. I had to switch to D93 and then everyone calmed down.Einzelherz wrote:As Jesus intended.nakedarthur wrote:Np! Because people like their "popping colors," far-too-blue marketing nonsense.

LOL I think he's already pushing the envelope on vibrancy. It's as far as I would go with it.xadox wrote:Something vibrant like FCEUX Improved eg.nakedarthur wrote:...Xadox, I'm always open to suggestions.

Xadox - not against it if others are interested for a possible alternate version. For now I just want to primarily get the main one updated since I feel like it's the most diverse given the others available from Tim and FBX.

But now we wait for glorious viletim to crank out some new firmwares for us.
I wish there was some way he could make a program that we just feed palettes into and it spits out firmwares. This should be possible really.

And to no one's surprised at all I uploaded another ninja edit the other night after looking at that Level 4 dungeon. The other week I made a tiny adjustment to that color while I was playing Contra, but this is exactly why I was saying you have to be careful a few posts back. You can barely see the change in that game, but in Zelda where it's used for the whole screen it can make a pretty big difference. Anyway, I just nudged it back a bit and it looks exactly how I remember it.

Yea that would be awesome. I get why he's protective of it though, don't want a bunch of knockoff NESRGB kits on aliexpress.com or whatever haha..FBX wrote:But now we wait for glorious viletim to crank out some new firmwares for us.

Well I don't mean for him to release the source code, but rather just make a new exe program that makes the firmware after you feed it a palette file. If that's not possible, it would be nice if he could trust one of us to run palette firmware builds for him so he doesn't have to hassle with it.nakedarthur wrote:

Gotcha, well I'm all for it if it's possible. I have no clue how those firmware are created though haha. Maybe it's possible to update palettes with just a hex editor? I'll have to tinkerFBX wrote:Well I don't mean for him to release the source code, but rather just make a new exe program that makes the firmware after you feed it a palette file. yeah lots of great stuff on the nes, although I've been playing more on emulators lately as I'm not a fan of the sprite flicker. (I think the NT has a setting for that)
Re: Wavebeam NES Palette for NESRGB, NT Mini, Emulators, etc
Yeah shame the box had such rubbish boxart that put me off ever getting the game, yes this was the days before the internet to look up reviews and purchases were made on how good the box art was lolFinalBaton wrote:Haha that intro to Shatterhand is fucking dope. Had never seen it.

Re: Wavebeam NES Palette for NESRGB, NT Mini, Emulators, etc
I recall discovering that sprite booster will sometimes cause glitches, like in Castlevania III and some minor flaws in Legend of Zelda. Purists leave it off to retain original gameplay experience, but I have to admit it's quite nice for the games it works correctly on.Blair wrote:yeah lots of great stuff on the nes, although I've been playing more on emulators lately as I'm not a fan of the sprite flicker. No word back yet from Tim unfortunately. I did take a look at the .pof file and it seems to be encoded somehow so it's a no-go with the hex editing. I've also been looking into the NTSC decoder app again trying to get the demodulation working for the Composite voltage data Artemio recorded. I made a naive attempt, but I think for something accurate it needs a PLL that's synchronized to the colorburst frequency. Easier said than done though of course haha. I'll keep hacking away on it, but now for it looks like this:

Re: Wavebeam NES Palette for NESRGB, NT Mini, Emulators, etc
@OP,
The classic Apple II has the same problem with palette accuracy due to it directly generating NTSC video vs. being RGB based. This article might be helpful with NES palette creation as well: https://mrob.com/pub/xapple2/colors.html
It should be noted that RGB output cards for the 8-bit Apple IIs along with the Apple IIgs (when displaying classic video modes) work similar to the NESRGB by using a pre-programmed color lookup table. Plenty of people complain about the colors not being accurate on those systems. That and it doesn't support artifact colors, although that isn't a concern on the NES.

The last time I emailed him was in June, and I just told him to grab the latest from the site when he did firmwares again since I was still tweaking during the wait. I can try emailing him again about it.FBX wrote:Speaking of, did you send the finalized palette over to Tim yet?nakedarthur wrote:Yea sure, please grab the latest from the site.Wolf_ wrote:@op I'm Wolf_ from the smokemonster nt mini pack and was wondering if I could have permission to include your excellent pallet in the nes pallet folder of the pack?
