N64 RGB Mod with Artifacts? [Solved]

Post by Thomas83lin »

Recently I modded my N64 with rgb using Tims rgb board, Most all games look prefect but I've ran across afew games with these weird spots showing up. Its mostly in the red. I've seen them in Beetle adventure racing and its really noticeable in Glover 64. But like I said most other games look prefect.

My question is, is this normal or is it a problem. If its a problem any idea whats causing it??

Heres a video of Glover 64 were you can clearly see the spots showing up (look behind my main character on the trail)

edit:
Think I found the problem, the interference is being caused by the ribbion cable supplied on the data lines. I'm not really sure how to fix it besides shorting the cable. If that doesn't work I'll have to use better insulated wire.

Edit Again: I got it fixed, I ended up adjusting the routing of my data cable (it was close to what was showed in the guide but not exact) second I shortened the ribbon cable by 3 1/2 inches. Either way I got it fixed. Not a single spot showing on the screen.

Did you see the updated install instructions with the extra ground wire? Without that wire, the data lines pickup a lot of noise.

That's actual data noise. Shorten your wires if you can and be mindful of the clock in particular. Check for shorts.

I already got it fixed, thanks for the replies though. I did have the extra ground wire installed btw. It was either routing or a length issue. I shortened my data wires and it solved the problem, so @mikejmoffitt was correct shortening the data wires.
