Any Dr. Katz fans out there?

Post by Jon »

I just wanted to pass along the very welcome and long overdue news that one of the most underrated shows in recent memory is finally seeing its first season released on DVD on May 9th. Unfortunately the first season consisted of only six episodes but its a start.

Granted the show isn't for everyone. In fact during its run on Comedy Central my roommates I was living with at the time came to loathe it. However for those that like slightly off beat comedy and stand up (and aren't nauseated by the squiggle-vision format the show is presented in  ) its very welcome news indeed.

I am not sure how many people on the forum will actually care about this but I was so happy I had to share. :D

Dr. Katz > most of Comedy Central's current programming > Home Movies.

I did enjoy the writing, but yeah the "squiggle-vision" animation was horrible...

Speaking of squiggle vision, isn't Ed, Edd, and Eddy on Cartoon Network squiggle vision?

The first season of The Critic was awsome but the quality greatly declined (it was dumbed down) when the show was passed to the next network (Fox?)

One of my favorite scenes is when some family is watching Sherman on their TV and then switch channels to The Simpsons just as Homer hurts himself "Now *this* I understand!".

The Critic is available on DVD in a nifty all encompasing package. The show hasn't aged so well largely due to its dependence on pop culture references from the 90's but picking it up is a no brainer if you were a fan of the series.

The Tick is also a classic. Strangely enough if you have cable you can catch reruns on one of the Toon-Disney channels of all places. I still find it odd that the craptacular live action series immediately made it to DVD while the animated series has not. I am sure it will see a DVD release eventually.
