Sony PVM 14M4U Screeching Noise

Post by gekopa »

I just bought a PVM 14M4U from eBay. It was packed pretty well from what I could tell, but when I turned it on, it started emitting a loud screeching noise for a couple of minutes, while the picture shaked like this:

Once the screeching stopped, the picture settled down as well, but the middle section expands and contracts slowly. I tried playing around in the service menu for a setting that might fix it, but I can't figure it out. If I turn it off and on, the whole process starts over.

Is there something broken?

If its anything like the one i got, it was probably dropped. i would open it up and check for anything broken inside.

mine had a cracked main board.

Hey, I'm surprised I came along to see this post, I just purchased a 14m4u and I just powered it up for the first time and after 5 minutes, I get this loud buzzing noise and that same exact screen display you show on your first photo. Did you ever end up fixing this issue? Or is it a lost cause. Because I'm like freaking out that I just purchased this monitor and it's not even useable. It's weird because when I turn the monitor off, and then back on again, it's fine. after 5-8 mins of running, it's gives me that buzzing noise and distorted screen. Thanks a for any help! -nick

My PVM use to make a loud screeching noise when I first got it. It would make the loud screeching noise until it warmed up, which was like 5min. Fixed it by placing just alittle tension on the flyback with a zip tie. It was the flyback vibrating, I'm not sure if its got something to do with the flyback going bad or needing re-soldering but the pvm has been going strong for about 3 years now, no noise at all on warm up.

One thing to to know, my PVM didn't have that messed up screen that you showed in the pic, So it may be related but not exactly the same.
