You can request more than 5V with USB-PD
But running something higher than 5v through the 7805 when you know the power source is perfectly stable enough for consoles is just a good way of destroying efficiency for no good reason (not to say that linear PSUs going through a 7805 are any more efficient).

I was thinking that the original PSU could still be used and the 5v provided would simply be for PAL TVs that require it through their SCART connectors. You could remove the 7805 and feed 5v directly through USB-C, but then you would have a problem of having a cable that needs both power and video traveling through it (or a breakout box to handle it), which just seems like a mess, hence the 5200 reference.

And the biggest problem (again) is the goal of having direct wiring that is cheap and easy for any modder to do. I'm open to the idea of using USB-C for power and video, but I don't want to have to introduce external electronics, as I'm trying to keep costs as low as humanly possible.

fwiw, my mentioning USB-C was a joke.

It's a nice idea and all, but how could we possibly make this a video standard?

If/when it's finalized and people start using it en masse, then it's a standard.

Of course, but the issue is getting people to use it en masse.

Agreed, but that's the problem with any new standard.

If you were aiming for the highest quality, you would not have put the audio and video signals on the same connector. If you were aiming for something easy for modders to install into a console you would not have picked a connector that is only available in PCB mount form. And if the same person who installs a new RGB connector is going to make the cable (where else would it come from?), he can just make up the pin arrangement on the spot, without any need for reference.

There are already several businesses that seems to exist just to fill the need for console RGB/audio/video cables.

I have a hard time working out who this is meant to appeal to.
