Yes, I've tried it out on my 2014 mini iPad 2 with Retina display setup. It works like a charm despite not having the proper arcade rotary knob spinner as the proper way to play it as intended but by using the touch screen interface, game control-wise tends to suffer a bit if you're not fast enough to deflect the ball(s) in play.

Only if there was some way to mod a DS rotary controller (which does have an surprising amount of weight and heft to it when spun due to the weighted flywheel + encoder wheel combination used inside the tiny & compact internal mechanism -- considering it's diminutive size and relative form factor, it's comparable to that of the full-sized arcade spinners indeed -- I was blown away how Taito managed to replicate the tiny DS rotary controller spot on) to work with the Bluetooth protocol spec and be able to play AvSI as it was originally meant to be played (of course, that'd entail having some more code written to accommodate that optional hardware upgrade alone).

I suppose Taito would have to create a 3rd-party iPad/iPhone wireless rotary controller with Bluetooth functionality to use with the AvSI game (which'd require an update to use it properly -- something for Taito to seriously consider). Heck, I'd buy one if they were manufactured for the general public. In terms of being able to play proper Arkanoid-ish type of games on iOS, it'd just be a matter of getting the right type of rotary controller made to play it as it was meant to be played. Touch screen interfaces just doesn't cut with those type of games period.

During the golden age of arcades back in the early 1980s, I can recall playing the full-sized Atari Tempest upright cab and giving the arcade spinner a good and hard spin -- it'd spin for a really long time (not to mention your C-shooter character would madly spin round 'n' round on the web playing field in direct relation to the speed & direction of the weighted flywheel + encoder wheel being spun crazy fast). Nowdays, it'd have to be a brand new arcade spinner controller setup to succesfully pull that particular feat/stunt off. The original old-school Atari Tempest spinners can't be spun crazy fast anymore due to their old age and condition (unless some NOS Tempest spinners were stashed away for a rainy day replacement project but that's very unlikely in this day of age).

I've been really looking forward to trying this out, especially considering they have some of my favorite characters in the game. And some Original Generation characters as well.
