Rayman Legends, if it's nearly as good as Origins (I have yet to play Legends).

Personally I think it's better than Origins, but I played it on a 360; on the Wii U it has some oddball touch screen shenanigans going on for certain sections.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Rayman Legends, if it's nearly as good as Origins (I have yet to play Legends).
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I can't believe some of the first and only game suggestions for Wii U are Rayman...
That doesn't bode well. My Wii U should be arriving in a couple of weeks and I'm really hoping there are better things to play than that.

Did you actually play Rayman? I only played Origins, but it's great. Really great. The best new platform game made since Mario Galaxy, no contest.
Although it is definitely based on concepts from the original Rayman 1, it's a completely different beast from that horrible game!

He asked for third party games, there's pretty much nothing besides the stuff that Nintendo published. Everything else is multiplatform and better on other systems.
Rayman is pretty good though.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
It's pretty clear on the other platforms which sections these are, as control for your "partner" is reworked for gamepads and is one of the few cases where the touchscreen would be better. I found these levels quite tedious on the PS4 and wish they had just been removed or truly reworked.on the Wii U it has some oddball touch screen shenanigans going on for certain sections.
Can't say this is a knock on the Wii U rev.

I don't have a problem with multiplatform game recommendations. I've heard that Watch Dogs is good on the Wii U, but it would probably be better to play it on more powerful hardware.iconoclast wrote:He asked for third party games, there's pretty much nothing besides the stuff that Nintendo published. Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I have a bunch of multiplatform games for my Wii U, and mostly I'm happy with them. Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed feels like a game that's completely at home on the Wii U, even though it's multi. And some indie and kickstarter titles, like Shovel Knight and the newest Shantae, I got for the Wii U. But you can't really argue for the console with titles that aren't exclusives. And apart from the ones already mentioned, Nintendo's first and second party are basically the only relevant exclusives for it. Fortunately, Nintendo has been on a fucking roll these past few years, and just spit out quality after quality. Their lineup for the Wii U is beyond amazing.
In general it's just a really "pleasant" feeling console, that's all about the games. Far removed from the mess that my PS4 shoves into my face every time I turn it on (or from the Wii's casual focused gimmick shovelware), and more in line with my impression of what a video game console should be like. But that's a very subjective approach.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
There's ZombiU.
Granted, it's a launch title, but I'm honestly suprised about it (I seldom touch stuff by Ubi and I can't get it off for Rayman). It utilizes the Game Pad like no other game I'm aware of.
If you're thinking the concept is cheap gimmick to begin with, than it can't be helped, though.
Chuckels me to hear the lauded Revil7 took more of a slice off it in perspective.
I second the notion of Sumez that the console is more than fine if you're looking for some fun.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I loved the original Wii; how do Wii games look on the Wii U? I've heard that the Wii U upscales them to 720p. But do they run in the correct aspect ratio?

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
It's definitely an advantage to run Wii games on a Wii U.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
The Wii U doesn't upscale Wii games. It runs them at 480p over HDMI so the only advantage is being able to run Wii content over HDMI instead of component. No idea if you can get higher resolutions with modding though.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
There was a thread about Wii U BC output quality in the hardware section not long ago: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59908
It doesn't fare well unfortunately (not that I care that much about Wii games actually).

Considering how terrible the Wii's component output is, that's a sizeable advantage!DoomsDave wrote:The Wii U doesn't upscale Wii games. There isn't any advantage to playing Wii games on the Wii U (except convenience). The Wii U will have worse image quality. I'd argue that it's a difference you wouldn't actually notice while playing games though.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
So I got the official Wii U Pro controller, and while it's comfortable to hold, the dpad and face buttons are way too tight, and feel snappy-that's the best word I can use to describe how they feel. Are there any good third party options? I've heard both good and bad things about the Nyko Pro Commander, and the PDP Afterglow Controller. I don't care how the triggers feel; just the face buttons and the dpad.

The buttons are too snappy for you? Weird. I always thought snappier was better, not mushy.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Yeah, this is the wierdest complaint about a controller I've ever heard ..Austin wrote:The buttons are too snappy for you? Weird. I always thought snappier was better, not mushy.

I have no problems with my Wii U Pro Controller.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I shouldn't have complained about the buttons; they're not the problem. But the dpad definitely is:

That pretty much sums up why I'm looking for a good third party Pro Controller.

Wii U Pro controller is different from Switch Pro Controller, which reportedly does have that problem with the D-pad. Haven't heard anything similar regarding the Wii U one.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Well, with the Switch, you can use the four face buttons on the Joy-Con controllers as dpads. I don't know how well that works, since I don't own a Switch.Ebbo wrote:Wii U Pro controller is different from Switch Pro Controller, which reportedly does have that problem with the D-pad. I'll figure something out. I don't want to play 2D games with analog joysticks, although it does work really well in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

Apparently there are a lot of fake Pro Wii U pads about, make sure yours is legit.dave4shmups wrote:So I got the official Wii U Pro controller, and while it's comfortable to hold, the dpad and face buttons are way too tight, and feel snappy-that's the best word I can use to describe how they feel. Is now a good time they'll never get around to that "use four Wiipads at the same time" feature they were talking about?

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I never heard anything about that. it's always been one gamepad per Wii U. It seems like it'd be pretty hard to pull that off, so it doesn't surprise me they never did.BryanM wrote:Is now a good time they'll never get around to that "use four Wiipads at the same time" feature they were talking about?
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Interesting about the Switch Pro Controller. I wonder if this is only affecting early runs of it? I picked up a NIB Switch Pro Controller a couple of weeks ago and have had zero issues with the d-pad. I've been rocking Shovel Knight, Ultra Street Fighter II, Cave Story, Binding of Isaac and Puyo Puyo Tetris and it's been rock-solid--easily the best controller I've used in a long time. Either people have forgotten how to use d-pads, or whatever mechanical issue there was has been fixed.
As far as the Wii U Pro Controller, I can't vouch for its d-pad like I can the Switch Pro Controller, as I only used that for Xenoblade Chronicles X (its analog setup just felt more natural to me). Pretty much everything else though I have used the tablet controller and I haven't had an issue with its d-pad.
I'm confused--the tablet has a d-pad as well, not just analog sticks. What's the issue with that?dave4shmups wrote:I'll figure something out. I don't want to play 2D games with analog joysticks, although it does work really well in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

I recall Nintendo commenting early on that two tablet/gamepad controllers could technically be possible, but I don't think anyone ever implemented support for it.Udderdude wrote:I never heard anything about that. it's always been one gamepad per Wii U. I'm guessing he just doesn't want to play with the tablet, like so many of us.I'm confused--the tablet has a d-pad as well, not just analog sticks.
That said, though they look identical, I found the D-pad on the tablet to be significantly better than the one on the Pro Controller. What a disappointment. The one on the tablet has nice feedback and seems to pivot from the center (as it should), while the Pro one seems to press down in the center just like it does at the directional ends - this seems to be responsible for the false presses that crop up. I was so disappointed to find they must have done something different internally when they could have just duplicated an existing design.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Yeah, I also find the dpad on the tablet to be a lot better then the one on the Pro Controller. (And yes, I bought a legit, not fake Pro Controller.) The Pokken Pro Pad controller looked promising, until I found out that you can only use it with one Wii U game. Someone in a Wii U Facebook group that I'm in said that the rubber underneath the dpad will loosen while using it. I'm skeptical of this, and how long would it take anyway?bigbadboaz wrote:I'm guessing he just doesn't want to play with the tablet, like so many of us.I'm confused--the tablet has a d-pad as well, not just analog sticks.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I wonder if Nintendo did something different with the dpad on later Wii U pro controllers. The white one I have seems identical to the d-pad on the Wii classic controller. Too bad Nintendo didn't use the dpad from the first DS on more systems. I like that pad quite a bit.
