E3 2017
Re: E3 2017
Microsoft wins by the sheer quantity of games presented.
Ubisoft wins for not being nearly as cringeworthy as previous years.
Devolver wins just for the shitposting.
All the other conferences win based on your own personal preferences.
The degree to which Nintendo wins depends on how much you care about the games shown and announced, much like the poor sods who thought BG&E2 was the match point for Ubisoft just because it was hyped up by everyone to appear on E3 for many years and finally appearing, like The Last Guardian. But little to no gameplay was shown of the games most people were looking forwards to (METROID).
Sony's conference was bog-standard with nothing of particular interest presented on stage. The PC Gaming Show was an embarrassment with the occasional good game sprinkled in, but will mostly appear to people into the newest 'real-time strategy games' (e.g. mustard race posers). Bethesda is too busy cleaning up after itself again after announcing Paid Mods 2: Electric Boogaloo. EA was just shit as usual.

Re: E3 2017
Doesn't the same apply for, well, all of them? I thought Microsoft's thing was by far the most uninteresting, haven't seen a single game from their camp that looks even the slightly appealing. I guess Cuphead is cool, but this is like four E3s in a row for them now, and I have a hard time imagining the gameplay will live up to its presentation. That cyberpixelpunk game looks cool too, but similarly I have no idea what it's about. It's sort of sad, though, that you have to look to low budget indie titles to find the interesting stuff.Durandal wrote: The degree to which Nintendo wins depends on how much you care about the games shown and announced

Why the hell would you hand over an important IP to a developer who already butchered one previously?

Re: E3 2017
As long as they don't introduce a shitload of plot no one cares about, the worst it can be is mediocre. There's always AM2R as well.
Can't say, given my username, that I am not pleased to see Metroid brought back out. But I reserve hyping myself for anything until I see game footage. I hyped myself for Other M back in the day. >.>
I don't really know where they can take the "story" of a new Prime game, considering everything wrapped up conclusively in Prime 3. I am still saddened by the fact that Fusion is still the last entry in the series, time-wise. What a lousy finale to end Metroid on.

It's also perplexing that Nintendo keeps handing IPs to Artoon/Arzest.Skykid wrote:Same.soprano1 wrote:And there goes the small interest i had...Durandal wrote:A new 2.5D Metroid 2 remake by... Mercury Steam?

Re: E3 2017
John Johanas is directing EW2, although Mikami's "hands are all over it".
He's the guy who directed the Kidman DLC.
I was wanting a pure Japanese experience, but after I played the DLC I was really surprised to see a Westerner's name. So, hopefully the team and Mikami keep it's flair.
I'm a bit worried this is going to be too cinema heavy, as the second part of Kidman's DLC was. But it might have just been because it was the ending of her story.

Monster Hunter World just got upgraded to the game of the show for me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjZ-asj8GzQ

It looks and sounds amazing. Although I don't expect it to have nearly as many monsters as the 3DS games since they're starting over from scratch. And it probably takes 5x as much effort to model everything.

Re: E3 2017
They can always just yank assets from Monster Hunter Online. If that's not what they're doing already.
Re: E3 2017
Yep, that and the fact that there was virtually no combat in the dlc. I'm hopeful though as the gameplay trailer looks really good. Also in the original game there was a bit too much of cut scenes taking control away and forced walking / talking sequences. Hopefully this type of crap won't be in 2 - get all the story handled in a chunk then leave the gameplay alone ... like RE4...evil_ash_xero wrote:John Johanas is directing EW2, although Mikami's "hands are all over it".

Re: E3 2017
What exactly has Square Enix announced? Did I miss something?
My highlights so far:
Mario + Rabbits Kingdom Battle
Metroid Prime 4
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Monster Hunter World
Shadow of the Colossus Remake
Metroid Samus Returns
Super Mario Odyssey
But were there any brand new games which we weren´t expecting already?

Kingdom Hearts III.... looks exactly like you'd expect, so nothing exciting.gbaplayer wrote:What exactly has Square Enix announced? Did I miss something?
Are you telling me you were expecting an Xcom game featuring a Mario and Rabbids cross-over?gbaplayer wrote: But were there any brand new games which we weren´t expecting already?
Re: E3 2017
Don´t know what i was expecting, maybe some exciting new RPGs from Square Enix, an Open World Western Style RPG like Witcher....hm...there were no real surprises. Only Metroid Samus Returns really surprised me.

Re: E3 2017
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim trailer is just the TGS trailer subtitled. So I'm guessing we're not getting it anytime soon

Re: E3 2017
I'm honestly surprised Nintendo are still trying to push Amiibos. I haven't seen a single Amiibo in any store for the past two or so years. And when I've seen any, it's just remainders from the original first batch.
Re: E3 2017
Hoo, that means they're all sold out.
Pretty much all I ever hear about them on the internet is griping from someone mad they can't get one that they want. If anything, it sounds like the N is torturing its customers with artificial scarcity.

False. No stores even try to carry them.BryanM wrote:Hoo, that means they're all sold out.

At least in this part of the world.
Re: E3 2017
I was wrong about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim being just the TGS trailer subtitled, it's slightly different:

But really nothing new.
Limited Run Games have revealed some new things in their lineup:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxHN_cZNbXg
2064: Read Only Memories and VA-11 HALL-A physical Vita releases? Yes please. Lots of stuff to play on my Vita in the future makes me happy.
Less happy about the shit tier 3DS hardware getting more interesting stuff. Unlike some people I'm optimistic about Metroid: Samus Returns and since I want to try getting into the Mario & Luigi RPG series someday, the remake of Superstar Saga is good news. Oh and Sushi Striker looks interesting.
On a note about the better tier handheld hardware Nintendo has, I'm really happy about the reaction Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is getting. A lot of positivity for turn based strategy when I was sure you had to add waifus and call turn based strategy games Fire Emblem for them to sell at this point.

Re: E3 2017
Superstar Saga is fine as it is, I don't understand what a remake is good for? Anyway, it's definitely the best of the series. Partners In Time feels very similar but it's just not fun to play in the same way. I'd actually recommend only playing Superstar and forgetting the rest.ZellSF wrote:since I want to try getting into the Mario & Luigi RPG series someday, the remake of Superstar Saga is good news.
Re: E3 2017
Too bad that one similar game for GBA from the same developers, Tomato Adventure, never got localized.

Alright then. In what way is the remake better?

Re: E3 2017
When a game beats the odds and turns out not only good, but great, it's not realistic to think you can just make it better. The higher quality a work is in the first place, the more likely it is that changes will diminish it, especially when made by someone who wasn't party to the original creation. Usually, the only games worth remaking are the entries in a series that didn't live up to their potential.ZellSF wrote:Making it better?

We'll just have to wait and see until it's done? Not like there's a whole lot of information to go on yet.Sumez wrote:Alright then. In what way is the remake better?
I'm guessing there's definitely things that CAN be made better, though it wouldn't exactly shock me to run into yet another person who thinks one of Nintendo's games is perfection and cannot be touched.
It's easier to make something better, than create an entirely new product that's better from scratch.Mortificator wrote:When a game beats the odds and turns out not only good, but great, it's not realistic to think you can just make it better.
Not going to address the rest of the post since way too much vague language that you can use to dismiss any games I bring up to address them.
Re: E3 2017
yeah i don't get it either, but, for some reason some people just love remakes.

Which quantity do you think is larger, the number of great games that are remakes, or the number of great games that aren't?ZellSF wrote:It's easier to make something better, than create an entirely new product that's better from scratch.Mortificator wrote:When a game beats the odds and turns out not only good, but great, it's not realistic to think you can just make it better.

wtf they replaced Superstar Saga's charming cartoon graphics with some shitty, lifeless, pre-rendered-3D shit
How the hell can someone so profoundly misunderstand a game?
