Haven't seen it, but I'll try:

Poor script, bad acting, plot that barely makes any sense, and shitty cgi.

Even if I'm wrong about Mummy 2017 I'd bet $100 I just described the new Transformers.

Watched Netflix's War Machine last week. It was good enough that I now want to read The Operators.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

The Triangle (2016) - David Blair, Nathaniel Peterson

Low budget horror done in a docu/found footage style, about a cult type group in the dessert who call on some non cult friends to come visit. Interesting and enjoyable with a nice twist half way through but then again, I'm a sucker for this type of thing.
The standard of acting and writing is pretty good overall. Only let down by a very weak ending.

The Nice Guys

Sets / Props / Costumes: Amazing
Dark Humor / Comedic Violence: Very good
Everything else: Pretty bad.

A few laughs here and there (mostly in the form of some over the top violence) but let's face it - neither Russell Crowe or Ryan Gosling are ha ha funny guys.

Oh, that's too bad! I was looking forward to seeing this in the future, as it looked like it had potential. Maybe our senses of humor are different enough that I'll still find it funny.

Perhaps. It's not a total wash. There's a few funny bits, but I feel the imdb rating of 7.4 is far too generous. More like a 6. If they cut it to 90 minutes (from 1:55) it would be far more tolerable. With the effort they put into the sets and the actors respective wheelhouses, it would have likely done better as a drama a la madmen or real cop show, like LA Confidential (but in the 70's).

You mean "American Gangster?"
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Me, I thought The Nice Guys was funny because of how the main leads performed, it was in a way, unexpected.

Opium and The Kung Fu Master
Ti Lung in a movie when Shaw was nearly done for. A kung fu master who becomes addicted to Opium, but denies it for a good portion of the movie. Rival master opens up an Opium den and gets most of the workers in the town addicted and beats Lung in a fight. Nice acting all around, and the fights are well done. Not the best Shaw Brothers put out, but one worth at least one watch.

The Mummy (Tom Cruise)

Highly irritating and ambiguous protagonist, who draws his power from the monster and "heroically" resorts to SPOILER without meaningful adverse consequences. The mummy is a better character.
A miserable failure at setting up a "dark universe" for a series of films (maybe not a bad thing...) with the blandest recurring characters and unfinished plots.

Many interesting references to other films (e.g. a certain book), but also silly plot holes (why does a well-funded government program to build the ancient equivalent of a nuclear waste storage site leave it open to visitors without any trap, and include a dependable emergency release system for the mummy in case visitors have trouble accessing it?)

I just watched Wonder Woman and Logan, since I'm a manchild who only watches superhero movies.

I wish I was entirely joking there.

Wonder Woman is not a character I've ever been fond of, except for 2 portrayals of her (one in Kingdom Come, and one in New Frontier). I really enjoyed the movie. I'm glad to see that Heinberg did the script, as I was really fond of his Young Avengers work (yeah, I know he's more known for Gilmore Girls).
So, it's nice to see DC get out of their slump, and now all of their "big three" have at least one good to great movie. I'd give it...somewhere between a 7 1/2 and an 8. It kind of fluctuates.
The progressive press are having some bizarre articles about this movie. One article said "I didn't think this would happen in my lifetime". What the fuck? It's like when I never thought there would be a black president in my lifetime (I was wrong).
But there have been female superhero movies (they weren't good, and didn't do well). And there have been popular female action hero/superhero shows, like Wonder Woman, Xena, and Buffy.
Maybe she was just shocked there was a female lead superhero movie that was doing this well? With films like The Hunger Games making tons of cash, why is it so hard to believe? I don't understand these people.
This movie still didn't beat the all time classic "Barb Wire", for me.

Logan was good. I probably liked it about the same as WW, although they were completely different. Wasn't a fan of the pervasive language. What is up when a comic book movie gets the chance to have an "R" rating, so they get all excited and say "fuck" constantly through the movie? It's sounds sort of unnatural, to an extent.
Oh well.
But it was good, but it does conflict with some of the other X-Men movies. I hear this one is supposed to kind of be in it's own universe, but references the others. It's weird. They just wanted to make a good movie, and I guess they were like "fuck continuity". Which is fine. They do that in comics all the time.
Hugh Jackman has done a great job all these years, so I'm glad to see him go out on a high. Remember X-Men Origins? Yikes!

I watched the first 50 minutes of Wonder Woman. It was Wonder Woman. I enjoyed the first five minutes the most because I was eating movie nachos with extra jalapenos. My wife had to pee so we left the drive-in. I think the movie nachos gave me diarrhea.

Since when do drive-in theaters not have facilities for customers? All the ones around here do! Why'd you have to leave?

It would have to be fucking Citizen Kane for my wife to use any public bathroom, let alone the one at the drive-in--but yeah, we just were not into it at all.

I don't get it. You're all bored to tears of superhero movies, know exactly what you're getting (and then some), yet you still pay for them.

I'm looking forward to the day that Marvel's Cinematoc Universe hits an unending decline that eventually ends in dissolution of the IP. It will come, absolutely, just a matter of time. You can't keep repeating a formula ad infinitum: eventually even the diehard dribbling morons will tire of them.

I forgot about the kids...

Imagine that, a world where traditional cinema is replaced with corporate "cinematic universes" for generation upon generation until there is nothing left except formula. It's already sterile and without any creative imagination; knowing that children will be weaned to love it like it's all there is and ever was is a pretty terrifying thought.

Planet of the Apes seems to be the only current cinematic series that manages to maintain a sense of integrity, it's just a shame it's the exception in that department.

Yeah, I hear you. There are very few Hollywood blockbuster films that I would pay to see in the theater on my own accord, least of which superhero films. I inevitably end up getting dragged along to many of these with my wife & friends, so it is entirely a social thing for me. In this particular case, however, my wife & I actually did expect something, anything, beyond the standard fare. The praise for this thing has just been completely over the top, even by outlets/individuals who I usually see eye-to-eye with. There was absolutely nothing beyond the standard fare to be seen, and apparently the 50 minutes we saw was the good part. I suppose that we were hoping that, at the very least, this would have taken a more feminine/right-brained approach to the genre. It didn't. It's exactly the same macho slow-mo brainless action shlock as every other big Hollywood superhero film. It's simultaneously too suggestive and violent for kids/little girls (kids love dick jokes!) and painfully childish & unfunny in its pandering PC risk-averse moments of levity. I'm stoked that Patty Jenkins is going to make a fortune on this, and anything that helps break down gender inequality is a win in my book, but there's just nothing else I have to say about this thing.

Kingdom of Heaven (2005 director's cut)

Supposedly a pseudo-historical epic, actually a three hours travel agency commercial. Congrats if you manage to stay off the skip/ff button and not fall asleep during the first hour.

Videodrome (1983)

Super long overdue but finally. Well that was epic!

The Videodrome theatrical trailer is quite something to view/behold indeed. Quite impressive for it's time back in 1983. The original plan was to have the big ol' TV rise out of the bathtub filled with water (but in terms of practical special EFX shots, this particular scene was axed out due to budgetary constraints and deemed rather too expensive to shoot) -- so the resulting ending that we do see at the eventual conclusion of this film is a masterstroke of genius.

So Alien Covenant has had 6 minutes cut from Chinese theatres that apparently ruin what little half decent elements the movie has.

As such I won't be paying a penny to go and see it.

For the good of the world, let me explain how this works:

In China there is a complex system of face, and a massive complex of oneupmanship and having to build a facade that displays superiority. By doing this you may earn the favour of your employee which may in turn lead to the most important thing in the universe: money.

Covenant wasn't cut because it was necessary. China has plenty of movies, foreign and domestic, with incredibly violent scenes intact. One example mentioned during this debacle was a movie where a murderer slaughters women and children in a kitchen.

The disparity occurs when some little prick wants to look good in front of his boss. And that's it. That's why Covenant has had nearly all of the gore removed and other low profile movies nobody cares about get released unperturbed. It's literally down to a pencil neck saying "boss, I found some very disturbing scenes in the latest major blockbuster, I think they would really upset children, so I have removed them to protect the fragile dispositions of the wonderful people of China and the legend of Mao Tse Tung". To which his boss says yeah, yeah and then goes back to fucking his secretary so she can get her monthly bonus.
