How much would you pay for a SHMUP like this on Steam?

Post by hearto »

Hello Guys!.
I’m the developer of Space Corgi and I’m looking for price validation.
Space Corgi is an Horizontal Shoot ‘Em Up for PC/Steam where you control a Cyborg Corgi on his journey through space while going against a vicious alien race.
The Game is inspired by multiple classical Shoot ‘Em Up from consoles and arcades from 1970 to 20XX like Gradius, R-Type, Thunder Cross and is NOT a Bullet Hell, but it takes some features and mechanics from those games.
This video is a hard test case to showcase some of the gameplay and test enemy behavior.

Some key features which makes the game stand out vs other games of similar genre:
  • > The player can Stop Time, this isn’t a bomb like the one from Mao Mao in Sonic Wings. The Time Stop mechanic is an active part of the gameplay, for example, the player can stack bullets, extend the duration of power ups or unlock hidden paths in stages, etc.
    > Most of the enemies react to the player’s actions, for example, the parasitised moai enemy will become a spinning death trap if only the body is destroyed, so the player should try aiming for its eye instead.

Features:
  • > Classic Arcade Gameplay: One hit player deaths, limited lives and continues.
    > 8 Levels with different enemies, bosses and gimmicks for each stage (For example the moai is an enemy from the second stage and the gimmick is Gravity).
    > A branching Gradius-like Power Up System.
    > Fruit Score System: destroyed enemies drop coins and/or fruits, pick up a fruit to grab every coin on the screen, each additional fruit will increase a combo causing enemies to drop even more coins. Fruits are dropped by enemy groups and hidden in invisible chests through every stage.
    > No RNG/RNG-less.
    > Multiple Difficulties.

I wouldn't ever pay for anything on Steam, but the game looks original and charming. Providing it's actually a good game, $20 is a more than adequate price tag in my book. It's not a lot of money, so I voted for that.

I see it as $14.99. Then I would wait for a >50% sale.

I would gladly pay $20 for a quality scrolling shooter free of DRM and sold somewhere other than Steam.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

A playable demo would really help, hard to say based only on pictures/video and description.

EDIT: nevermind, there's already one on your website, I'll test it out and report shortly.

EDIT 2: ok, it's a very limited demo, can't say much about it, but I couldn't come to like the parry system, but that's just personal preference: when I shoot at things I just want to concentrate on shooting and dodging bullets.

I wouldn't buy the game, but I can totally see it being fine for 14,99

I would say $9.99. Even classic shmups like Shikigami sell for that, and it'll also help draw the attention of more players.

$20 is fine, although I'd need to see a bit more variety first.

As always, remember genre fans are willing to pay more than average users.

Seeing this reminds me of Space Moth and 1917: The Alien Invasion whose developers also posted on here. They're both €4.99, so I'd say €4.99.

I consider Jamestown to be the pinnacle of indie shooters on Steam, and it's $9.99.

To me, this doesn't seem worth $15/20, maybe $10? (Considering Shmups like "Varstray" and "Trouble Witches" on there are around that price.), Maybe even probably lower with such titles like "Shoot 1UP" since its decently priced (though it won't last long on XBLIG, but will always be on Steam).

Sheesh, even the "Sense of the Seasons" game is totally free on Steam, so with as good as much content you'd put in for the game, its also best to have a demo as well, I mean, other games that are in Greenlight also had demos too, like "Graze Counter" and some others.

I'd pay $20 to play. I'd gift it for $10.

I didn't put that demo here because it was a very old prototype of the game stripped down to the basics required for Absorb (Parry System) and Stop Time mechanic, looking for feedback to polish them.

We're going to have a new demo with the listed features, don't worry about that
