Playing Alien Isolation. I just arrived at the MediLab and can't continue playing anymore... It's too scary. Damn this Xenomorph
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Prey (2017)
The game has a very solid first half which might even be the best shit Arkane ever made, until you get to Cargo Bay/Life Support after which you have become so strong to the point where combat is merely an annoyance and resources are in abundance, after which you encounter NPCs which give you sidequests, but these sidequests completely break the natural flow of the game and force you to backtrack around the station to places almost devoid of (threatening) enemies which you already have thoroughly explored. The crafting system allows you to craft upgrades and ammo by the boatload turning you into a demigod since materials are in fucking abundance as well, even on the highest difficulty. On my second playthrough I have to restrict myself to not craft any upgrades and get by with what I can find normally on the field, but even then I find that the alien powers allow you to cheese out some situations.
Yet, most people talking about the game say how they're always out of resources and how brutally difficult the game is, when there's so many easier ways to get past obstacles if you simply fire up your fucking neurons. I have a list as long as Ron Jeremy's dick which details many balance changes for the game I'd wish to see implemented, but if they were that'd probably alienate a good 70% of the people playing the game, on top of the ones who enjoy being hilariously overpowered.
Fucking playtesters.

Picked up Disgaea 5 for the Switch. I've played a lot of Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance + 2 in my youth, but never got into the Disgaea series. Really enjoying how streamlined everything is with the Netherworld.
Any tips for someone familiar with tactics but new to Disgaea?

The Vanquish PC port has a strange issue where damage taken is somehow tied to your framerate, which increases the higher your framerate is. It also seems like health regeneration is tied to the framerate as well, since I seem to be regenerating a lot quicker than on the console version. Maybe it's to offset the easier time you have in general with mouse aiming lol. It's still more than playable on Normal, but I haven't tested how it works on higher difficulties.

The same thing happens with Valkyria Chronicles's interception fire and Dark Souls 2's weapon degradation. I don't think either got fixed. A lot of Japanese games tie game logic to framerate so it might not even be possible.Durandal wrote:The Vanquish PC port has a strange issue where damage taken is somehow tied to your framerate, which increases the higher your framerate is.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I'm convinced that when the System Shock 1 remake comes out (assuming they don't fuck things up) people will all be wondering aloud why such a big deal was made over System Shock 2 in the first place.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
System Shock 2 really didn't do anything new, it just did it really well, and still stands as a great example of a game no one else seems to dare make again, or maybe they just can't figure it out.
System Shock 1 was really damn ambitious for its time, but damn is it a hassle to even play. Hopefully the remake fixes that and not too much else.

Spent a couple of hours with that yesterday, and I'm already extremely bored. It feels like I have played it all a trillion times before. How do Bethesda manage to make their games so god damn dry?Leandro wrote:Playing Fallout 4 for free. Good game

They expect fans to fix their bugs/add more stuff for them. That being said, I enjoy New Vegas. Wish i could try 4, but my PC can't handle it.Sumez wrote:How do Bethesda manage to make their games so god damn dry?

To be honest, New Vegas bored me more than Fallout 3 or 4 did. I enjoy the basic concept, and did hold on for quite a long while, but god damn absolutely nothing happens in that game. Remember when Fallout was about fun situations in the first two games?
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I found NV to be quite entertaining, certainly better written than F3. How course nothing happens if you do not follow the storyline, same as F1 and F2 after having completed the first objectives.Sumez wrote:To be honest, New Vegas bored me more than Fallout 3 or 4 did. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)
The character design is more interesting to me than the two previous games, and the music is fine. Gameplay seems simple enough for me.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Bought System Shock 2 from GOG based on the recommendations here for only $1.50, yesterday morning.Sumez wrote:To be honest, New Vegas bored me more than Fallout 3 or 4 did. By evening, game was listed at its normal $9.99 price... which was weird.
I'm loving it, although playing via Wine for Mac, which crashes quite a bit.
It's like Deus Ex.
I might need to start over, since I've got pretty far in the game and keep dying at this point.
I have say though about New Vegas, it was amazing... got to the end but never finished... but w/ all the dlc content, it was pretty awesome.
So much better than FO3 and 4, which I just find boring and not as raw.
Was really hoping that the Vegas guys would do a spin off of FO4, which I love the graphics and game engine, but it's just so gay in certain aspects....

The Surge (PC) - From Deck 13, who worked on Lords of the Fallen with CI Games. It's sort of a sci-fi version of LOTF, with the XP being "Tech Scrap". You're in an exoskeleton, battling enemies with weapons like vibro-cutters, reclaimed pistons, etc. You can target certain body parts of an enemy if you covet a certain weapon/armor piece they have, or would rather go for an easier kill.
At the Ops center, there's a medbay and also a gear assembly station where weapons/armor can be built or upgraded for a certain tech scrap cost if you've also got certain required materials. At the medbay, all injectables (including but not limited to health boosts) are restored and TS can be used to level up. Certain doors can't be opened unless you've leveled up to a certain point.
Overall, this is pretty good so far. Like LOTF it has drawn some comparisons to Dark Souls.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Trying various things until the Vanquish port gets fixed (or I give up on it ever being fixed, whichever comes first).
The Signal From Tolva -- Far Cry 3 with "indie" production values. Unity game, avoid.
Killer is Dead -- gave up on mission 6. Can't tell how much is bad port and how much is bad game, but the controls are weirdly unresponsive (seriously, I cannot get that dodge move to come out about half the time), and the terrible camera + weird distorted palette make it impossible to tell what's going on in any "busy" scene. It's telling that there's an entire boss dedicated to the concept of "hey, isn't our game's interface terrible?" that does nothing but shoot lasers from off-camera, randomly turn the game into slo-mo (which makes all of your controls laggy as hell), and then make the camera even worse by making you fight from its perspective. Bleh. Also, the healing system is utterly asinine -- "heal yourself by not getting hit, and therefore not needing healing"... what?
Dunno what's next on the list, probably a re-play of The Evil Within.

just finished Alien Isolation... Wow, what a game. Sound design is amazing, it had the right length, not too easy like most recent games... Glad I bought this one

Finishing up on Riptide GP Renegade. 3-starred every event up to the final 'ultimate' cups, done the race and elimination evens so far, about halfway through the slalom and stunt ones and I'm at 100% completion.
Picked up Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams on PS4, I really wanted to like this on 360 but abandoned it pretty quickly - think the frame rate was crappy, and I'm not generally one to notice such things. No complaints this time, fun little platformer with some great level design. Also purchased the BIT TRIP comp, having much fun with Runner and the Breakout-style game (though the tilt controls can be a bit sensitive), not too sure about the rest yet.

Bit Trip Runner is your typical runner game, a little ahead of its time when it came out.Marc wrote: Also purchased the BIT TRIP comp, having much fun with Runner and the Breakout-style game (though the tilt controls can be a bit sensitive), not too sure about the rest yet.
For me, Bit Trip Core is the best in the series : precise gameplay, no death due to random stuffs happening, eyes wonder.
