Shankar says it will break the streak of bad video game adaptations: “I’m personally guaranteeing that this is going to be the best f–king video game adaptation ever made to date. That's obviously Alucard He was also changed to a blonde in the games' canon, so I'm fine with that. You see his face immediately after at 1:03, followed by Sypha and Grant, and at 1:06 you see a classic black haired Dracula. I still have a hard time imagining anything good can come of this, but so far everything looks as it should.

It's being written by Warren Ellis. I'm very optimistic. Castlevania III is also a GREAT choice for source material.

They have space-age algorithms that calculate what people want to watch, and use it to target intersections that are undersupplied when they decide to make a thing.

tldr: A computer decided House of Cards would be a pretty popular thing for Netflix to have.

Nah, they care a ton about what their customers want. There's probably a lot of people who watch animation and action horror shows* on the service, who've been searching for something something Castlevania in that search bar and being disappointed time and again.

The AI is heavily involved in all the unique content they invest in. Because it's a machine in charge of these decisions they can come across as extremely eccentric at times. Such as how they paid for the dubbed version of Knights of Sidonia, season 2.

We're just so conditioned to copy-and-paste crap everywhere, greenlit by some shallow bastard that only cares about cocaine and hookers, that anything unique comes as a shock. Arrested Development gets crap Nielson ratings, but on the Netflix it's a real money maker.



* Animation+action horror is probably something where the supply isn't meeting demand. Madoka Magica and Attack on Titan have practically no competition whatsoever.

Another thing to consider is how non-existent the American animation industry is, beyond comedies and stuff made for children.

As I noted in the weeaboo thread, there are efforts in China to cultivate their industry, with things like an adoption of The King's Avatar. Maybe in the future Netflix will feed this niche?

Just like how videogames were dismissed as something just for children, it's an emerging market as those kids grow up.

Yep, this is what made me most excited to see this. It could mean Konami is thinking about revisiting the classic Castlevania universe in games as well.
