I am looking for help troubleshooting with the CYP CCR-2SRGB Composite Video to Scart RGB Converter. But firstly, let's get the elephant out of the room by addressing the question of why I want to convert composite video to RGB Scart.
My gaming setup consists of a variety of consoles and a Framemeister. I have a gscartsw_lite and a gcompsw on order from SuperG, and a Garo on order from the Behar Bros. The idea is to have everything run through the gscartsw_lite. One gscartsw_lite output will connect to the Frammeister's RGB input, while the other one can simultaneously output to a PVM (yet to be acquired).
And in the midst of all this planning for my gaming setup, I decided I wanted to incorporate a few analogue video devices into my setup -- a VCR, Laserdisc Player, RCA Selectavision, and VHD. All of these devices output composite video. Even where S-video is supported, I have been advised that this is an internal conversion of the composite video that has been encoded onto the media formats. In other words, composite is the best these devices have to offer.
When I try to connect my VCR to the Framemeister via composite, I find that the picture often cuts in and out -- rather like how the Framemeister behaves when the resolution changes partway through a game. This happens most frequently on well worn tapes and home video recordings, but less frequently on commercial tapes that haven't been well worn. Therefore, I suspected the issue had to do with the analogue signal wandering off spec and the Framemeister not liking it.
This led me to the aforementioned Composite Video to Scart RGB converter. I theorized that generating a stable sync signal would solve the issues I was having. And secondly, it would enable me to incorporate my VCR and similar devices into my gaming setup without having to switch my Framemeister's inputs. In theory, I could even do the simultaneous output to a PVM.
But alas, I acquired the CCR-2SRGB, and I can't seem to get things right. My VCR outputs composite video to the CCR-2SRGB, which outputs RGB Scart to the Framemeister, which outputs HDMI to my TV. The Framemeister detects an input signal, but it doesn't seem to send anything to the TV. Occasionally I can hear some audio, but no picture. The only time I've seen picture from my VCR passing through this setup is (interestingly) when I stop, rewind, or fast-forward a tape. On these occasions I see a plain blue screen with the appropriate stop, rewind, or fast-forward icon in the bottom left. I tested this setup with my DVD player and my NES to see if anything worked. The DVD player works like a charm. The NES, however, has the same results as the VCR -- nothing.
I realize that all my technical woes might be solved by getting a TV with composite inputs and calling it a day. But I want to be able to tweak settings in the Framemeister and use a capture card to make some high quality captures.
I am naively hoping that SuperG's sync regeneration in the gscartsw_lite might aid my situation, but I'm not so sure that sync is the issue here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
