This is particularly interesting because I clearly recall reading about the game's spiritual sequel, Super Aleste/Space Megaforce on SNES, having one too.
If you listen to that game's sound test, you'll hear the announcer's speech for every weapon in the game (nearly unintelligibly in the Japanese version I might add). However there's an announcement for what appears to be a ninth weapon, called 'Indy Shot' (or 'Endy Shot'?) and if my memory serves me correctly I've even read instructions in old gaming mags how to obtain it, which involved something with shooting powerups so much they turned into screen clearing bombs, but never actually using them or something along those lines. Never could get it to work.

Am I missing something? That video was uploaded in 2009, and the 8-way is clearly documented in the Gunhed strategy thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=14424

Yeah and even in 2009 this was probably already common knowledge for 20 years.

That's why you get when you only sporadically involve yourself in the shmup community. It was new to me. Should have checked the date.
Okay then, nothing to see here, move along. Close thread.
