Has anyone heard of that visual novel? The events of the game have just started today.

yeah the true route is overrated fairytale garbage, but before that it was awesome, dark and mysterious mood ftw.

But look at what the true route has. When Blick Winkel appears, that's the moment I really did feel like I was in the story.

I heard exactly the opposite, that the routes are bloated with fillers and slice-of-life moments that add nothing to the story, but the true route makes up for it.

The regular routes do have lots of slice-of-life segments but also a fair amount of mysteries and impactful moments, while the true route aims at explaining everything behind the game's events and features a lot of twists. I really liked the true route, but I can see why some may think it was a bit too much.

I should really read it again. Ever17 was such a great game, and my introduction to VNs in general.
By the way, an interview was recently conducted with one of the writers and the director as the game is now around 15 years old:

I keep seeing that too, at first I was surprised this was all I would ever read, but at this point I've just accepted it. I just hate how neat and tidy the true end is and think it got it all wrong.
Spoiler
It's such a cheap ending, just trying to give resolve everything and being completely unbelievable in so many respects. media keeping quiet for 20 yrs??? i'm talking about everything that's supposed to be grounded in realism, i don't care so much they bring in some fantasy elements.
meanwhile the common route and character routes, although obviously not flawless, are actually really tense, moody and packs the occasional emotional punches (Tsugumi's route over and over... one of my best VN experiences), always keeping you guessing, fascinating you about what the heck is truly going on. such a shame that what was truly going on in ever17 is nothing but bad writing when the structure and scenario is otherwise so on point. I dunno who would say there's too much "slice of life", that's ridiculous, there's always an underlying urgency. You played 999? although it is more adult and has the same urgency, ever17 generally feels more dark to me, lots of music pieces used for this end too. see im a huge fan of mindfucks and surrealism and all that jazz and ever17 has nothing of that at the end, it's just mega contrived, tries way too hard to provide an explanation for everything and basically everyone gets a happy ending because i guess this is a game for kids rather than art. before that though, it's genuinely mysterious and has moody pieces like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG_b84Vl7f0 giving it a dark vibe and giving you a labyrinth of a narrative that focuses completely and confusing you rather than explaining. so disappointing that the ending explained it all rather than leaving things up to interpretation.

You know, when Blick Winkel appeared to revive Coco and Takeshi, and when Coco jumped up and hugged BW, I felt like I was the one being hugged.

Today's the final day of Ever17. We're gonna save Coco and Takeshi.

I missed that but someone decide to put the PC translation into the PSP port for this:

Visual novels are IMO best suited to handhelds (I know I think everything is best suited to handhelds) so this is good.

I found most of Ever17 boring. The true ending is really fun in how nidicolous it is though.

Wish someone could translate the Xbox 360 version.
