Raiden, CocoeBiz promotion and interview with Go Sato

Post by rtw »

No further questions :D

I'm updating this thread since Kahori wants to make another attempt
at making a fan based interview with Go Sato. We already have a lot
of good questions but it would be nice to get some for the new Raiden
stuff as well namely: Raiden Fighters Aces and Raiden IV.

Here are the new releases from INH in the Raiden series featuring work by Go Sato.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G19iwHNwW_8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-zBx7qfFYs&feature=user

If we could make any questions added regarding these titles as well
it would be very nice.

She said she felt it would be nice if the fans could participate themselves
with questions for Go Sato. So here is the idea, post your questions to Mr
Go Sato here. I will send a link to this thread to Kahori and she can pick
and choose which questions she wants to use.

To start off here are some of my questions:

. Are you in any way related to Akira Sato ?

. What are your main musical influences ?

. Do any of the tracks on the Raiden albums have any real names ?
i.e. level 1,2 etc seems a bit bland.

. How good are you at playing Raiden/II/DX ?

So anything you have wondered about the Raiden music but were afraid to ask :D

1. Are you a gamer/shooter fan? What did Raiden represent for you? Which elements do you think made the game such a classic?

2. Were you involved with Raiden III, and if not, would have you liked to?

1. Your musical tracks for Raiden I & II are excellent. One thing I've noticed is that they are perfectly suited to a hard rock format. Have you considered hiring session musicians to record those songs as heavy metal tracks (ala Konami's Dracula Battle Perfect Selection 1 & 2 discs) so that fans can purchase them?

2. Were you involved in the remixing of tracks for the Playstation release of Raiden Project? If not/so, were you pleased with the results?

Thanks for the post - great topic!

Sounds like a good idea!

1. Which of your own game soundtracks is your personal favorite?

2. Can you explain the sudden change in style between the music in games like Raiden I/II and Viper Phase One to the new sound in the Raiden Fighters games?

The music in Raiden II has a much stronger beat overall, and a faster pace. How did you decide on this style of music for Raiden II, as opposed to Raiden, which seems to have much slower-paced music?

His name is in the Raiden III staff roll under Sound Composer (followed by two other names I can't make out).

1. Are you involved in composing/performing music for a medium other than video games?

2. Have you heard any unofficial covers/rearranges of your music for the Raiden games? If so what are your thoughts on them?

What other games except the Raiden games has music composed by Go Sato, and what are his favourite game soundtracks of all time ?

rtw your questions are still good (I would like to know if he's related to Akira Sato).

1. What happen to Sebiu after making Raiden Fighters Jet (no more shooting games from them)?

2. How did you and Yasuhiro Hashimoto work together on Raiden Fighters Jet?

3. Do you like to do music on chip-based (arcade) or live-based (Raiden III/IV)?

4. When you herd about Raiden III did you went to Moss to ask them you want to do the music of the game, or did it went the other way around?

5. How did Arika Sato came on board for Raiden IV?

6. How was it like to redo the music tunes from Raiden II for Raiden IV?

7. Did you like the music rearrangements from Daisuke Nagata, WASi303, Kou Hayashi, Shinji Hosoe, and others (on the Raiden IV CD with the game)?

8. Do you play shooting games in general?

9. What was like doing the music for Thunder Force VI?

10. Did you play any of the Thunder Force games before composing the music for TF VI?

11. Did you talk to any of the previous Thunder Force music composers before doing Thunder Force VI?

12. Did you work with the other music composers (Tamayo, Motoaki Furukawa, Kaneko Tsuyoshi) on TF VI to make the music stand up with the other TF games?

13. On TF VI did you have creative control on the music or Sega ask you to do the music in a certain style?

14. A message for your Western fans (or fans of the Raiden shooting games)?

15. (Not a question): Thank you so much Mr. Sato for the memories (when I think of Raiden I think of your music). I wish you good luck in the future.

I was under the impression that his name was Go "Akira" Sato, and he simply dropped the Akira after Raiden. Now I'm suddenly confused as to where I got this notion. I think I read it off Wikipedia once. Serves me right.

Either way, this is a fantastic opportunity, and I'd love to see what this guy has to say. He's been in the shoot 'em up industry longer than just about everyone.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Akira Sato and Go Sato are two different people. Akira Sato did Raiden, Go Sato the rest. We had a small discussion about this here:

Question to ask for Go Sato,

Could have the PSX version of Raiden Project used Redbook audio for the BGM tunes of Raiden and Raiden II instead of Yellowbook audio compression?

The Raiden Project game disc is only 35mb of data on a 650mb formatted PSX game disc. I recall that the later released CyberFront/Interplay's PC version of Raiden II port uses such Redbook audio format for BGM tunes and it does sound much better, indeed. ^_~

Go Sato has started blogging, sadly only in Japanese.

Fascinating to hear straight up from Sato-san that his contribution to the PSX Raiden Project port wasn't up to par but did the best he could with the technology at that point in time up until the eventual release of it in both Japan and the USA.
