Hana Tahka Daka!? [PCE]

Post by Perikles »

This game has countless notations, I just picked the one I liked the most. However you want to spell it, it's a lovely, adorable game for your PCE. The theme and light-hearted atmosphere is evocative of the Parodius games, with some ingenious set-pieces and enemies. I particularly like the enemies that can take out your tengu right away, I'll never forget the first time the poor guy got sucked into a vacuum cleaner.

Alas, it may be one of the best console-exclusive PCE games, the scoring is not inordinately solid. Every stage has a hidden bonus stage you can access in order to obtain a piece of a scroll/map. These bonus stages loop forever until you reveal the shrewd raccoon residing there, meaning that you can milk for points (most assuredly not on purpose the first time around) as you please.

I'm not unduly concerned, though, the game is so charming you could never seriously complain about it, it's even cuter than Hacha Mecha Fighter. It should also be stressed that the gameplay itself is astoundingly solid, the balance between using the regular shots with the trailing little tengus and the charge shot is especially noteworthy.

If you manage to collect all the different pieces of said scroll/map, you also receive a better ending. I'm just going to denote that as an ALL+, I furthermore will prioritize these over regular clears for the rankings to give a small incentive. Not that I expect much activity, but still!

Thus, the format:

Player - Score - Stage

Normal

Code: Select all

    Name Score Stage
1. Perikles 642,100 ALL+
2.
3.

Perikles - 642,100 - ALL+

The second picture in the spoiler has the final result which is barely legible. As usual on the PCE, immortalizing your score is not that easy.
