Indeed. It amazes me Famitsu is held in such high regard, especially when one of the shittiest Final Fantasy games ever is their fanbase's number 1 game. Ugh.
Hey, reader choices don't reflect on the magazine, as I'm sure their editors have their own preferences.
What the hell, though - Street Fighter II Turbo is LOWER on the list than the original SF2?
Yeah, the magazine's opinion pieces (including reviews) are absolutely worthless shit because it has less integrity than Game Informer, not because the readers are stupid.

Well, World Warrior was more influential, although Turbo was certainly the more polished game. you could say the same about SMB vs. SMB3, for instance.

That doesn't mean it's not absolutely retarded, though.
^ Maybe you could shoot for president/prime minister/grand poobah on that platform. (har har)

The fact that Final Fantasy IV and Tactics Ogre are up so high is awesome, but the rest of the list is kind of bleah. I'm happy to see Mother and Mother 2 on there as well, but the list has way to many RPGs. Still, I guess it just shows how much the Japanese like RPGs...
Yeah, I'm playing through FFX right now and don't see anything special about it. I've played worse games, but really, it's just a bunch of cutscenes strung together with unchanging, tedious gameplay. I'll probably finish it, just because I'm borrowing it from a friend who swears by it. Besides, it's really not too bad when you're just in the mood to relax. But best RPG ever? Not by a LONG shot (not unless it gets much, much better after the Calm Lands, where I am now).

I wouldn't necessarily say that...if something from that era wowed you with its graphical abilities "back in the day," even if it doesn't look as impressive by today's standards the original impression it made can still stick in your mind when you think of it. That's not to say that I think graphics should be weighed too much when considering the value of a game, but "graphical excellence" is relative to the era you're talking about.
I'm quite suprised that the orignal Mario game did not make it in to the top ten, after all with out it there would pretty much be no gaming industry today because the general puplic got bored of the same old stuff thus cuasing the "great video games crash". Mario was basicly the new "Digital Crack" that made a lot of people return to video gaming.
You guys have also gotta remember that a lot of people who read this magazine are going to be quite young, possably so young in fact that they were perhaps just born while all the cool games cames out in the early to mid eighties.
Yeah also if it were up to me, Final Fantasy X would not even be in the top 50 games, there are far better and orignal RPG's out there. I'm also quite suprised that games like Grandia and Panza Dragon Saga did not even make the list but then again that's just me.
Grandia made the list. . .it was somewhere near the bottom if I remember correctly.
The lack of Sega doesn't supprise me. . .as the only system of theirs to gain a successful following IN JAPAN was the Saturn (if you notice, almost all the Sakura Taisen games made the list).
But what dissapoints me is that a nation that STILL gets new shmups in the arcades only elected Gradius I to the list.
While I don;t believe that graditude should a 'feature' for grading (Super Mario 1 isn't THAT fun). I'm supprised that the japanese didn't do it, since many of the other games on the list seemed to have placed high for that reason.
GameFAQs is a hive of idiocy, and I don't really like their list much better.
In any case, they're just lists. I'll enjoy my shit, they can enjoy theirs all the more.

FFX being at #1 is so wrong on so many different levels, it's just not funny. If I was running that mag, I'd be too embarrassed to print that list. I would have just posted a message saying, "I'm sorry. We didn't have any real gamers respond to our polls."
Not a list I would write, but I like it more than most I've seen. They voted what they like and it's been pretty obvious for some time that FF and DQ is it. Nice to not see God of War on there.

That's actually what US gamers do, isn't it?
I think a lot of people anywhere like these games. Kinda like interactive movies. Nothing wrong with that, I'd say.
I think he's referring to the fact that in America, games tend to require a press of the "X" button to confirm choices, whereas, in Japan, it's the "O" button.
Unless it's a Kojima game. Then it's "O" all around the world.
Seems like original games in the series are held in higher regard, even if the sequels shit all over them (look at vf1, higher than vf2 and sf2 higher than turbo). In a way, that's a good thing, though.
