I've been looking for a low-lag game room TV (as you know most Vizios have no more than 25ms of input lag,) so this weekend I bought a Vizio D43N-E1 43-inch 1080p panel from Best Buy. This is their new 2017 model.
To my dismay, it had severe problems with my setup. I'm running an iScan Pro, and the TV for some reason wasn't able to decide whether the signal was 480i or 480p. It kept locking up switching the resolution back and forth. This happened on NES, SNES, and Genesis. It would work occasionally, and the 480p image quality was amazing when it did work, but it only locked to the correct resolution 25% of the time.
Thinking it was a bad IC, I swapped it for a different model, also a new 2017 model, the 40-inch Vizio D40N-E3. I had the SAME problem.
I had to settle on the 39-inch D39h-C0, which is a 2015 model. It works absolutely flawlessly and the color uniformity and white balance is actually much BETTER than the 2017 models, despite being only a 720p panel (which results in a softer 480p image.)
I just thought I'd post a warning here. I can't comment on the 2017 models' performance with the Framemeister or OSSC, but if the problem has to do with signal tolerance, I'm willing to bet the OSSC is going to give the new 2017 Vizios some problems.

Re: Vizio 2017 D-series thread
Can you elaborate on the behavior of the display you returned? Did it constantly show alternating toast alerts (that indicate a new input signal) or did you just have artifacts on the screen? What did you do to troubleshoot?
The models you referenced have no RGBHV HD15 VGA input and the iScan Pro has no HDMI output. Please share how you connected the iScan Pro to the Vizio.

iScan Pro supports YPbPr over its 15-pin D-Sub; I'm using a D-sub to component adapter to connect. And yes, both models were rapidly alternating between 480i and 480p; the TV could be power cycled to occasionally force it to stick to 480p, but this didn't always work. I'm not exactly sure if the iScan Pro is strictly a line doubler, or if it performs some kind of adaptive deinterlacing (later models like the iScan HD definitely deinterlace.)orange808 wrote:Can you elaborate on the behavior of the display you returned? My troubleshooting consisted of buying a new TV. When the second model also showed the same behavior, I came to the conclusion it must be an issue with whatever board or chassis they're using for the 2017 D-series. Both the 40-inch and 43-inch seem to have the same chassis. The third TV I bought (the older model Vizio) has zero issues whatsoever.

Definitely strange. Hopefully, that's something they can iron out with a firmware update.
Also, I have not heard of any Vizio displays with good low lag on the component input in the past. I don't know if the new 2017 models are better, but I am very skeptical. In the past, Vizio's low lag performance has been restricted to their high speed HDMI input port(s).

Re: Vizio 2017 D-series thread
By the review of the 2017 E series the super low lag is gone and there's about 40ms accross all modes. They don't tell which input though (in the past the fast one was somethig like HDMI 5 iirc)
Now the D series could be quite different, reviews should pop up sometime soon.

I refuse to consider any Vizio TV that doesn't support 4:4:4. And that means, pretty much any of them ever that isn't their flagship 4k sets.
Which is a shame, because some of them have been decent. That's just a deal breaker for me personally.
Maybe after last years' updates to the 4k sets supporting full chroma res, they will implement it for all new models.
I also don't see how the 480p picture could look softer on the 720p set you picked up instead. As 480 to 768 should result in a better image than 480 to 1080. Less upscaling.
