How to adjust screen position on a PVM 20M4E

Post by gamelife »

Hello all,

just looking for a little help. I was given a PVM 20M4E monitor , the picture is decent but is not in the centre of the screen. I've been into the menu but i can't find any options for Horizontal or Vertical adjustments to re-position it?

please help :)

cheers, Rich.

You need the service manual for it - it tells you how to enter the service menu and adjust everything.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/sia77 ... ble%29.pdf

"""Entering the service mode
Simultaneously press the [ENTER] key and the [DEGAUSS] key
shown on the display of the menu."""

You want to look for H size, V Size, V Center, etc.

Service manual is located here :

https://www.elektrotanya.com/sony_pvm-2 ... nload.html

Press menu, and then ENTER and DEGAUSS together while the menu is open to access service.

Be Aware that the H Frequency (position), V Size depend on if you're using a 50 or 60 Hz source, so they are under two different headings.

NOR DEF has most of the picture adjusting functions, with NOR 50 DEF or NOR 60 DEF with the ones mentioned above.

The changes you make are only live till you power cycle the monitor. To make them permanent you have to write RAM to ROM.

To do this :

While in the service menu, press Degauss once, a star and WRITE will appear. Press Degauss again and it the RAM will be written to ROM.

Don't do a factory reset, it's a complete ball-ache to get up and running again.

Pages 16/17 of the above document have what you're looking for.

I have the same model, it's a bit daunting to begin with but if you keep tweaking it, it gets better.

If you are playing a console with a flash cart, definitely get the 240p Test suite

https://sourceforge.net/projects/testsuite240p/

This allows you to bring up a grid on the screen that's really useful for lining the picture up correctly.

thanks all, i managed to get into the hidden menu and adjust image the best i can.

the only issue with the screen is that there is a bow across the top of the screen which drops more to the left and there aren't any controls for this. i'm guessing this is probably just a capacitor issue as I've seen this problem so many times on PVMs and BVMs...in fact my 20F1E has the exact same problem lol

cheers!
