This should be of particular interest to the new generation of players who never got to experience shmupping when it was widely popular across the population of gamers 10-20 years ago

And of course nostalgia for those who remember ;)

You can probably find lots more shmup stuff in the full index (if you do, post links here for us), I don't have the time to go through it all right now unfortunately.

GUY - ARE - US!

Certainly preventing the "how should I pronounce" threads.

Also leaving no doubt about the sex of people telling us about the game... :P

Actually, Gaiares is supposed to be pronounced GUY-ah-res ('GAIA' followed by 'res') from the kana. Renovation's Anglicized pronunciation isn't exactly accurate.

And I actually remember some of these ads...

Gotta have that Air Buster glove. I think it could improve my high scores by two or three times, at least.

Finally, Task Force Harrier gets a little mother-fucking love around here. It's about time.

I never realized that Renovation published some many great games - all that plus Master Of Monsters. I could swoon.

Does anyone remember one particular ad for the NEOGEO that had a guy playing a shmup (I can't remember which one) and had his girlfriend dressed up in lingerie, looking all annoyed, because he preferred playing his game rather than giving her attention? I've been trying to find an image of this for a while, does anyone have it?

My only arcade shmup flyer (not my image). Even more embarassingly, I only bought it because Ninja Emaki is on the other side (hey, that's a great game). Aside from that, I've got a PlayStation ad for G Darius.

I do have a flyer for the original sit-down Galaxy Force machine, though.

Those are classic. I saw each one of those back in the day in Video Games & Computer Entertainment magazine. Except for the Crossfire ad though - anyone played that game? Is it any good?

Scan 4 is classic (2nd Gaiares ad). "He comes from the land where the mullet attacks...business up front, & party in the back!" - Family Force Five
