You certainly don't have to be an electrical engineer to build a little video amp, but you do need soldering experience, and the install won't look all that clean.

I still think waiting for a nice pre-made amp is a better option, but it doesn't take anywhere near the skill hawaplop is trying to say it does.
I don't disagree with your post at all, but my main point is that it would be a complete waste of time and energy to learn how to make this amp when two perfectly good ones will be coming out. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I was also under the impression that he is attempting to make a professional looking board, unlike the one you described.

If professional looking is what he's after, definitely he should wait. But I'm not sure why you think that's the case. It sounds more like quick and cheap would be his goals, and a breadboard fits that bill, assuming a schematic is out there somewhere.

Making a basic THS amp and designing a proper bypass board (with the correct attenuation) is the difference between kicking a soccer ball and being in the premiere league. That being said, assembling a board that someone else already designed isn't too bad :) If you'd like, you can have a few of ArcadeTV's boards made through OSHPark and assemble them yourself. My only suggestions:

- Use a THS7316, not a 7314 (installation is identical).

- Pay close attention to the cable requirements (detailed on my page).

I have a question. I was 3 quarters into recapping my VA2 genesis. I would check every so often to try the system out, and it would turn on.

So again I was about 3 quarters through, and I would turn the machine on, but my game (sonic 2) would not boot up, it's just a black screen.

Now here's the bizarre part. I have the Mega Everdrive X7, and that turns on. But when i select a genesis title, it still will not load. Now what's strange here, is that I can load up Sega Master System games, visual, sound, controls, all work correctly.

Can a capacitor cause the Genesis not to run a Genesis title? Please help, thank you. :-)

edit

I figured it out, my soldering iron nicked a trace, leading from the cpu chip near the cartridge connector. So I severed the section I nicked, soldered a wrote from the pad, followed the trace to the via it went to, exposed the via and soldered the wire to it, and my Genesis games worked again. So I went back, and finished recapping my system.
