Call me stupid for never really looking into the older Raizing games (and seeing the charcter development through the series)... but WTF? Gain's ship had a pair of boobs!???

I dunno, do the Mahou games qualify as "cute-em-ups?" I never really thought of 'em that way (or of Gain's ship as bearing mammaries, for that matter), but whatever.

I've always thought of cute 'em ups as any shmup that puts itself in a humorous manner.

Hee hee, well, I never intended the glossary to be "definitive" or anything like that, but just for the heck of it here's the definition of the current edition (I really hafta update the bugger again):

A shmup whose overall presentation and subject matter is intended to be “cute” or at least not very serious, though the gameplay is usually not radically different from, or less challenging than, most shmups in general. Examples are the Cotton and Parodius series.

I'll grant that the Mahou games aren't entirely serious, to be sure, but I definitely wouldn't put them in the same league, to that effect, of the examples given in the entry...I guess it just depends on where an individual shmupper draws the line between a "serious" and "non-serious" shmup, as lots of them have some mix of both. Not like it's a particularly pressing issue though, heh heh.

Of course, if you or anyone feels the definition in the glossary ought to be changed or otherwise amended, I welcome suggestions. But dang, I really do need to update...
