Unmodding a Gamecube VGA Cable

Post by shoobopper »

Hey guys! I have recently bought a gamecube d-terminal cable modded to vga. The modding to vga on a d-terminal cable seems easy enough ( http://www.geocities.co.jp/Technopolis- ... crgb_e.htm ), so at first, I was thinking to mod it back to d-terminal. But, I think a much better option would be to mod it to component. Since I use NTSC hardware, component is natively supported, so it would be ideal (doesn't matter much as I have a framemeister). The main reason I am contemplating this is I would like to have all my connectors uniform (component and scart). Any advice on what I should do? (mod it to component, mod it to d-terminal and use an adapter, keep it the way it is) Also, if I should mod it, what ends should I use, I can't seem to find a cable online that is similar to the official gamecube component cables. Anything to keep in mind?

I would use an rca screw terminal.

You should be able to strip the wire ends and clamp them down.

I believe the vga is just an interface so your ypbpr should still be intact as well as color coded internally on the cable insulation.

No, if it's VGA modded, it's using RGB. It's not just YPbPr over a VGA connector. I don't think anything would support that anyway.

Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable stripping anything on such an expensive cable. I'd restore it to D-Terminal and then use an adapter.

if it looks OK, I would just either restore it to output YUV or add a switch to output both (YUV and RGB), leave the DSub15 connector in place and add HD15 to RCA adapter.

So, how should I go about modding it back to YUV? Also, once modded, should I just attach the end to one of these https://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id= ... DQodlLoK7g? Will there be any quality loss, or should I be fine?

Look up the VGA mod, but I think there's some sort of jumper pin you short to ground to switch the output to RGB.

I +1 Fudoh on this. This way you can have both rgb or yuv at will. And it seems d-terminal is really really rare outside of japan (in fact I never saw one on any other device than imported xrgb)

To do it you have to look on this page of the mod http://www.geocities.co.jp/Technopolis- ... /dac_e.htm but instead you have to put a switch (1 pole 2 throw). On one position of the switch the pin 12 of the dac will be wired to the ground, on the other position of the switch it will be wired to the pin 1 of the connector with a resistor (just like on the page of the mod)

But be aware the connector of this cable is a pain in the *** to open.

Have you considered adding an Extron 201/202/203 rxi to your setup and using a BNC/SCART cable into your XRGB Mini?

So, is this how it will look?

I am just making sure as I do not want to make any mistakes. Anything I should keep in mind?
