Got me for a second or two there. Omae wa mou...

He he, so unlikely to happen anyway IIRC they said they were done with that. Most of their employees working in game 'dev' today were probably only toddlers when Donpachi was released.
It would be hilarious to think they could make a shmup worthy of the brand, and completely absurd that it would be for the arcades.

If Cave were to make an arcade shmup PCB, it'd be cool if it were an SH-3 powered DDP-SDOJ Black Label variant version. So alas, 2012 was the final year for Cave to release the SDOJ pcb kit as their final swan song. So be it.

Yeah, I clicked on this thread thinking "was Cave going to seriously do another true bona-fide arcade PCB release for reals"? You got me there, Xeno with your sly sense of humor.

you mean the garbage underpowered hardware that couldn't handle a game without the entire ship or even the bullets disappearing at times?
not to mention the built in input delay in all the sh3 games and the way slowdown works making them hard as hell to port properly
and don't forget the shitty sound in sdoj
and then the whole thing eventually dies and you have no way to repair it

anyone who still thinks that pcbs are a good idea in 2017 is straight up retarded
you're paying premium for a piece of shit that wasn't even meant for personal use

Yep, that's the one. If such an expensive & rare Cave SH-3 pcb were to "bite the dust", fellow shmupper rtw can revive it from the dead if it needed be.

Back to the original topic at hand.

CAVE fans are the only people I know who actually want their games to slow down to single-digit framerates.

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

It's a meme. It is the textbook definition of a meme, before the internet corrupted that word for its own purposes. Like classic memes, it barely makes any sense and came completely out of nowhere. It's not some weird form of buyer's remorse building up over years, nor is it the result of some "campaign" on someone's part. No, not even that stupid Futari video.

I bit :?

But tbh I can't say I was expecting much :) (I really like some of CAVE games but wouldn't qualify myself as a "CAVE fan")
