Just in case anyone’s looking for a HD CRT and is in Germany (or nearby), I’m selling my beloved A32 for a lack of space: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 2450200579
Open for reasonable offers but since even the 68X alone goes for 1500+ today I think it’s at least somewhat realistic. I paid more.

I'm hoping his 4x Mode works with my 1280 x 1024. But first I have to figure out this crazy d-15 port

It'd be awfully strange for them to offer it on the AM-Megaviews and earlier XC models, only to randomly remove it then add it back in for the last of them. To clarify, all those are shots of 15khz sources on an XC3730C. Could it possibly be a sync type issue?

As for the DA-15, I have a feeling it would use the same pinout as said 3730c.
Image

It's not that well made, but I put together a little adapter for connecting VGA to this, and it works rather well. DC or PC sources have worked fine on it, with sync fed to 12/13. Haven't yet had the chance to use any 15khz sources on that port, but I would assume they'd work just as well.
My pinout is the same as yours. How do hook up your scart to your bnc?

Do you use an interface or just a scart to RGBs cable? My scart to RGBs bnc cable would not work directly on my consoles

Thought I would post this here also. After all, plasma definitely qualifies as 'old display technology'

PS TV into a Samsung PN43f4500. Very happy with the picture I get, it looks pretty damn clean and crisp!

Here are a couple of pics :

That's some very nice color on that Samsung.
Is that tv the same one from that one thread that Josh made? I think it only does like 720p but the image is really nice. If i remember correctly, the 1080p model was not as good when it came to gaming.

I connect my SCART based console via the RGB1 input of the 3730, which is just using standard 5BNC for RGBHV. Same breakout as goes with my PVM; I do admittedly have a little sync stripper setup for use with it since it will only take CSync. Sync is just sent along the H line, and everything works dandy. Do the same for component based sources, via a Key Digital transcoder.

As for that RGB2 input that the pinout is for, I did have a little cobbled together adapter that was literally just an HD15 connector and DA-15 with a few wires soldered together and smothered in hotglue. I want to put together something more permanent and versatile for it though. Not sure whether I'll go with a little project box or another breakout cable for that though.

I do have and have used an Extron Interface to connect things up to it before, and still do sort of use one as a bit of a cable extender, but for the most part for VGA input, just use a HD15 to 5BNC cable.

Yes it's that model. I had bought it prior to Josh's hype thread. It plays really nice with the PS TV's upscaling, I'll give it that

I don't know if this will work but I had similar situation with an xbox one. I was trying to output 1080p to a Diamondtron 930sb which handles 1920x1440@73hz and it wouldn't display that res. I then tried scailing in the picture (Xbox one set at 720p) and then switched back to 1080p and it then would display the full res. Strange quirk is that once you've scaled the 1080p to fit nicely, turning off the monitor and then turning it back on it will not display the picture again :/

@Gunstar: thanks for sharing that! I thought mine had some weird defect but now I know that's not the case (the Lacie electron IV 19" is just a rebadged Diamondpro 930SB). Mine didn't display any of the OSSC Line5x modes, so not even 1600x1200. I think I already tried switching back and forth with different resolutions (since I was fiddling all the time with all the OSSC output capabilities) and never got it to work. No idea why, I've read some monitors required specific drivers to reach max resolution but that should only be relevant with PC's graphic cards output..

@svensonson: awesome pick-up! Barco monitors are so rare that even finding info/impressions on them is difficult, enjoy yours. :)

@FinalBaton: very nice pictures! I'd like to give the plasma tech a try someday, looks like it's a very good solution for 720p titles.. btw, what game is that on your last shots? Looks lovely..

game is Muramasa Rebirth on PSP (remaster of Muramasa The Demon Blade on Wii) from Vanillaware. Absolutely gorgeous game through and through. As is the case with all Vanillaware games. Just... wow.

That plasma set I have is great for 720p. I also scales 480p extremely well. it even upscales 240p decently (better than any other 720p or 1080p I've seen). Picture is not exactly 'great' for 240p, it stills benefit a ton from an XRGB-mini. But it's a nice bonus that it even recognizes 240p as much and upscles it to a pleasant picture. All in all a very nice little "all-arounder". Another bonus is that the PS TV looks the best I have ever seen on it. So I think I'll keep that set as long as I can, even if I replace it from the living room, I'll put it in the basement and it will be my PS TV machine

Set is far from perfect, but it has enough things going for it to be an interesting gaming monitor IMO.

Another thing I like about it is that it has a CRT feel. Maybe like a consumer 1080i CRT or something

Thanks! Yeah, I see plasma's as thinner CRTs with a fixed resolution display and some digital processing going on (which btw is exactly what consumer HD CRTs used to be). I would definitely hold onto one - if I had one, that is :)

Well of course I meant HD CRT TVs, not monitors. There is no such thing as a SD monitor so I figured putting in the HD label would have been enough to make it clear. I also specified consumer-only sets, so no Sony HDM's or similar.

I haven't been able to find the user manual (I have the service manual), but in case you haven't worked it out yet, the button with the diamond shape on it stores your current settings in memory when pressed.

Does anyone have any insight as to what a good price for a Sony BVM-14F5U would be? Seems like prices on all BVM/PVM are pretty high.

If my memory serves I've seen them for around $230-600 in the last month or two on eBay (one up there now is like $500 shipped). You can actually search eBay for completed/sold listings to see what they actually sold for (which is a good benchmark for the market).

I was personally super-lucky and picked up this exact model locally a couple weeks ago for $20 (was listed for $75 but he couldn't get a picture up on it so I offered $20) - only has 30K hours on it too ;)

Jeez 20 bucks!

Looks like I might be able to snag a new one with like one hour for 300. Feels pricey to me though... I think i could find a 20 inch PVM for around the same price. I am really interested in picking up a BVM in really good condition. Do you guys mind gaming at 14 inches? Does anyone prefer 14 inches for certain consoles?

Thanks for the reply!

If you've been a console/play from a couch guy the size and required proximity might be an issue. At that size you pretty much have to treat it like you would a monitor for computer viewing and be 2' - 3' away tops.

I've always wanted the smaller Sony PVM for reference monitors. 10" or smaller would be ideal to lag test and reference true color.

But to answer your question. How important is multiplayer gaming to you?

I have 3 other brothers who get down and would never be caught dead hunkered over a 14" display to play our games.

But if your used to personal pc gaming or live in a dorm, than this could be ideal for a personal station but I would even recommend a 20" when viewing personally.

This is the reference model I want when breezing the eBay listings for a nice benchmark device

The Sony PVM-8041Q - 8 inches

I wonder if a computer crt + ossc can serve as a suitable replacement to the bvm brand?

I'd like to think that Marqs opened this up as a viable alternative considering there are more of them out there if you know where to pick up any.
