Question about the XRGB and Analog-to-Digital (ADC) Setting

Does anyone know this, when I set the XRGB-3 ADC Level from 230 to 255 it actually makes the picture darker (shadowy areas become darker for example), but shouldn't 255 give a brighter result than 230?

I guess "ADC Level" could be translated to "Luminance Intensity" or "Luminance Level" setting?
