B&O CRT and gaming (ideally with a light gun)

Post by Gachan »

Hello Shmupsers,
I surfed for quite a while now, and I can't sem to find a satisfactory and definitive answer to this question: is it possible to play with, say, a NES Zapper, and B&O models ? So far, I gatherer… 1 user experience, reporting "problems" when trying to use a light gun on a MX4000 model. I don't know what kind of issue this is, but at any rate: anyone with a first hand experience with B&O models and light guns ? I never owned such a CRT, and don't know much about technical stuff, if that helps.
For now, I got my eyes on a MX3000, a MX4002 model or a LX5500. Any experience with those? Opinions about these models as retrogaming puposed hardware, light guns aside, are also welcome — I know the MX400X are well loved; what about the other two ?
Sorry if this thread is partly redundant. I found numerous pages asking which CRT is good for gaming and which isn't, so if it annoys you to answer about what model is good for that end, please at least try and answer about the use of light guns :)
And also, please excuse any mistake I make, English is not my native language…

The problem with the MX range of sets, is that they have a contrast screen in front of the actual tv screen. This can give problems with lightguns. You can remove the screen from the set, but it makes the set look awful and I personally don't really like the picture without it.
I'm not familiar with the LX5500 model so I can't help you there.

If you don't mind a bigger tv than the 20" MX4000, you might want to look for an MX7000. The contrast screen is made of glass on that one, and it is easier to remove and put back on again.

As I documented here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmNr8IqrPCQ the mx7000 has no problems with light guns, even with the contrast screen on.
Check the main B & O thread for a bit more info.

Know its an older post but i have also problems by using a light gun on my MX7000, MX6000 or the MX4000.

I tried it with and without contrast screen and the result waa the same - shoots on corners will no recognized by the tv. Therefore manxly Games are not playable... Very safld because the TV itself is very nice for retro gaming.

I just wonder why he can't handle light guns? Do someone also have a MX 7000 and can play Dreamcast Lightgun without any issue?
