Super Galaxy Squadron on Kickstarter

Post by Ironhide »

I discovered a great project on Kickstarter. You can play the demo. Check it out:

This is available on Steam now.

Most people here will likely rofflestomp this game the first time they play it, but if someone is looking for an easier game to play this may be a good choice. There's lots of ship variety to experiment with as well, if one is into that.

Scoring is based on a chaining meter that drains faster based on how high the multiplier gets (definitely not a full-level chaining game; more like short chains to optimize small bursts of enemies), and collecting tons of point items.

The "hardcore" mode is a bit weird though. Instead of making the levels harder or using a more traditional limited lives system, it resets the entire level after taking one hit, including your score to what it was when you entered that level. Seems more like a practice mode. :?

Sounds like it's aimed purely at people looking to 1CC it? Resetting the entire level on a death is extremely odd. I can't think of any other shmup that does it other than Progear's second loop if you die before meeting the boss (which has bullet cancelling and extremely long duration bombs).

Thanks for the tip. Looks like it might be something worth tinkering with on Steam.

Did someone buy the game on Steam?

Because from the demo version, I felt extremely bored for 4min until the boss came to make it interesting again.

Is the full version like this, or changed a lot being more action paced like that trailer?

Looks cool, I'll have to add it to my Steam wish list.

Super Galaxy Squadron upgraded to the EX Turbo version !!

So what's new in SGS EX TURBO?!

SHIPS - Three new ones (now 17 total) with alt fire modes.
MODES - BOSS RUSH is finally here. Can you defeat ALL of them in record time?
FEATURES - SLO-MO "Bullet-Hell Time". Slow down time to dodge bullets like Max Payne.

Also added new leaderboards and achievements - we're good like that.

Will the itch.io version be upgraded as well at some point in the future?
