Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Those poor NSA spooks busy watching hours and hours of footage of fat dudes masturbating to netflix softcore porn.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Software that gets worse with each update.
Seriously, I remember a time when software generally got better over time rather than the other way around.

Munchies's site new facelift made videos not available in my country, what the fuck is the issue?! There wasn't one before. Now I have to wait weeks to see the damn videos on YouTube. Even fucking Nintendo stopped the region lock bullshit with the Switch.
2017, still "Not available in your region/country" bullshit.

Nothing says "Old media dinosaur" like that region locked video horseshit. The sooner they all die out, the better.

Ridiculous portion sizes. Bonus points if they pile on the sides. Extra bonus points if you could share between three fucking people and all of them would be sated with the one plate.
Seriously, I can't eat all that shit at once and if I take the rest home, it'll taste like re-used ass when I eat it up. Don't want to toss out the rest either.

And because of the huge portions you never have room for dessert
Reminds me of a time at an IHOP where I overheard a kid saying that he couldn't eat anymore, and the mom was like "this is America! You eat until you're full, and then you eat some more!"

The ongoing diarrhea shower from the AMD Ryzen launch. Christ, it's not the end of the world, people gotta get a grip. Big news is - days of easy CPU advances are over. Maybe some thought has to go into intelligent software design now.
"Worldwide" (as in worldwide pants) is perfectly fine, of course. There's nothing anybody does anywhere outside America that we can't claim to have the "world series" or imply world domination. Also, worldwide pants. Perfect!
I wonder how many people would keep eating at IHOP if they knew what the name means?Satan wrote:Mmm international pancakes...

Without competition, Intel has been ass ramming us all. The days of big advancements ended because there wasn't any incentive to innovate. Intel has been resting on its laurels and overcharging us.Ed Oscuro wrote:The ongoing diarrhea shower from the AMD Ryzen launch. Christ, it's not the end of the world, people gotta get a grip. With some real competition, we can expect some performance bump and better prices from Intel.

I have a tablet with an Intel atom CPU and a powerVR GPU. It's not that bad honestly. It's running Android, though. There are truckloads of Intel atom tablets running the full version of Windows 10 now.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Atoms are excellent for W10 netbooks (I mean, a fairly recent X5 is)

Well, this is a good example of what I'm talking about: People getting price competitiveness confused with process upgrades. People can yell "innovate!" all they want, but AMD has done about as well as could be expected on an older process technology, and it's not that far behind Intel. But this doesn't mean that the magic of the markets are going to make Intel's CPU tech faster. Everybody uses similar (if not the very same) vendors for process technology and that's stuck at a slow pace for everybody, like extreme UV lithography's continued delayed rollout.orange808 wrote:Without competition, Intel has been ass ramming us all. Looks like the big dumb ARM tablet revolution isn't going to happen after all.A slim, underpowered, molten hot throttling, fashion statement toy with a touchscreen, no ports, zero expandability, tinny speakers, dinky screens, and a cell phone OS will never replace the raw power and flexibility of a real x86.
I'm happy for AMD's price competitiveness, and I hope Intel stops thinking people should pay $30+ extra for a cooler because they want to save a few cents by using thermal paste under the IHS. I'll wait and see if the next part will have that (if my machine holds out that long and I'm not forced to build a new machine before then), or if somehow AMD's single core perf comes up.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Frankly, we all knew AMD's bullshit 28nm process was rubbish; and I believe Intel *absolutely did* go cheap on R&D because of it. AMD has sucked for a very long time. I haven't owned an AMD product in years. I'm not on a shit budget--and AMD has been peddling cheap shit.Ed Oscuro wrote:Well, this is a good example of what I'm talking about: People getting price competitiveness confused with process upgrades. AMD also had to wait to get software devs to support their 3D Now! extensions, so it's too soon to panic about Ryzen.
I believe Ryzen will eventually see improvements in performance and Intel will answer with some real innovation. AMD hasn't mattered since Athlon. That was a long time ago.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
AMD doesn't have a process; they spun off their foundries into GloFlo (due in part to a poor decision about capitalization by the company's founder), though that's not really important.orange808 wrote:Frankly, we all knew AMD's bullshit 28nm process was rubbish; and I believe Intel *absolutely did* go cheap on R&D because of it. The argument that Intel doesn't spend on R&D is wrong, as demonstrated here (though there are a lot of details behind that, and I don't think Ashraf has a good appreciation on the process node difficulties, part of which aren't due to Intel at all, as I understand, but rather the equipment suppliers, like ASM Lithography, based in the Netherlands, which makes the lithographic machines).
The structure of Ryzen seems to be a lower-complexity, lower-bandwidth (on the consumer side, the server side will be different) parts, and it takes roughly twice as long to run AVX2 instructions (I say "roughly" because I read AVX2 heavy programs can cause Intel chips to throttle down from heat). There are some things that AMD is just doing differently and (in comparison with Intel) they seem to pay off for highly parallel tasks - but not single core stuff, like emulation, and like much gaming still.
From the stock price side, there's some reasons to be optimistic about AMD, but I don't think that the current Ryzen design makes sense from the gamer's point of view, unless you find the right price point.

Bonus Surprise!, our bureacracy has duplicated effort and cost once again in creating the hacking programs anew.

Why is it all of the Commodore 64 games found dumped are ones that have hacks applied to them? I swear some of the games act buggier or unusual compared to how they played originally, and because the original game code's possibly modified there's no way of knowing if it's an emulator bug or if it's a bug with the hacked version itself...

Yeah, that seems to be pre-DOS computer gaming in a nutshell. I've most definitely had issues getting cracked images running in WinVICE and Altirra.
To be fair, we owe the hacking community for distributing the disk images in the first place, altered or otherwise. There are also projects like this one (no warez) aiming to amass clean dumps of the known software.
