Few more runs to stage 5/Volvox, getting there.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

I don't think he's referring to Darius. There's another western pc shooter called "Saviors" I believe.

Trying out P-47 Aces, not a fan of the shippumd-esque scoring but for survival it's really fun. Also playing Garegga as usual.

I decided to jack in thunder force v, despite making good progress, I just wasn't enjoying the game. So, after years of telling myself that I hate border down, i spent some time with it. I actually enjoyed it! Don't know if I'll stick with it yet, but despite being pretty tough, I made fair progress for a couple of hours play.

Hey I finally earned the 3 million extend before Hammer, that is the only notable thing I did though. Rest of the session was, for lack of a better word, shit.

You mean Eschatos? 8)

Abandoned Kokuga for some Kingdom Grandprix. Definitely not regretting it. Racing mechanic is strange but interesting. For now I'm trying to get a basic shooting mode clear down before getting into racing. Doesn't seem too tough. Really loving the pixel art in this one.

Hang in there Stevens! That's pretty good to get the 3 mil extend by hammer. You're gonna clear this soon, I have faith.

Meanwhile, I've had a long border down session today. It's awesome! And to think I've been trying to sell it for a couple of months now! I glad it didn't sell. I'm loving everything about it, I'm making pretty good progress I think but it's going to be a while before I get into stage 5 and 6... Never thought I'd see the day I completely changed my opinion of this game. I think it's because I never got off stage 2 before...

Thanks.

I started getting closer to the clear when I realized I was almost always dying with a full bomb stock.

I know I'm close, yesterday was one of those days though. Taking today off and this weekend I will dive back in.

Border Down is an interesting one, mildly sorry I parted with it.

I tend to jump from shmup to shmup never clearing much. Not to mention a couple hundred other games like rpgs and so on that I own. This year I focus on 1 shmup at a time. Keeping my fingers crossed.
im the same lately jumping from shmup to shmup nevering clearing much either.

Latest version of Yabause. It's a little glitchy but it works. I hear SSF is a better emulator than Yabause, but SSF has crashed on me several times.

I need a proper port (or for my wife to let me add a 360 to our collection :D )

Mednafen has better Saturn emulation than either SSF or Yabause imho. Its also available as a retroarch core so you can cut a few frames of input lag from the standalone version too.

If I recall correctly, Mednafen does emulate some edge cases that SSF and Yabause can't, but there are still a number of games with glitchy graphics and audio. It's definitely promising, but I think real hardware is still the best choice at this point.

I hit a wall in Cotton 2 so I figured a change of pace was required. Decided to head back to ESPGaluda on PS2. It's such an enjoyable game, even when making bone-headed mistakes. Arguable my favourite game on the console.

Spent some quality time with Caladrius tonight. Had played before but only briefly.

Mechanically, this is definitely my type of game. Bullet patterns are solid, but managing, timing, and aiming all those unique special attacks makes for an ideal "wizard shmup", and the scoring further encourages you these funky and characterful weapons with maximum finesse.

Cool game.

I have attached my old lcd pc monitor to the wall so I can mame vertical games,I have been playing mostly older titles at the moment likes of Scramble , Astro Blaster, Phoenix, ,etc. I just need to get a 90deg power cable that will not stick out so much and tighten the wall bracket a little as it is not quite level.

Totally hooked on border down now. Game is brutal to learn but I'm making ok progress. I'll happy if I can no miss into stage 4 at this point. I have no idea on the correct route (easiest). Awesome game.

After banging my head against Raiden IV for a few days, I went back to DDP Resurrection and nearly 1CC'd Black Label Novice on my first run. Had I not lost two lives in the level 5 laser carousel section, I would've finished with 1 stock spare instead of on the first life of my second coin. Progress!

(I'm fully aware that novice is for babies but everyone has to start somewhere :D )

edit
Made it to 2-5 in 1.5 Novice!

It looks like it's going to be border down for quite a while. I'm getting consistent up to the stage 3 boss. The stage 3 boss is a fucker though, but I did manage to get into stage 4 on a single credit so there's definite progress!

Border Down always seemed like a game that demanded your undivided attention.

I've taken a little time off from gaming, but will get back to Progear sometime this week.

1st credit in two weeks. Right back to Volvox. Glad I haven't forgotten how to play.

Hotdog Storm is a game that feels like it was really overlooked . It's pretty cool for a developer that appears to be relatively unknown. The only GameFAQs review doesn't do it justice.

At first it looks like a fairly generic Raiden-esque game, but the music's really good (even if the shot sound effects aren't the best), and the weapons are quite interesting. Each weapon colour has its own unique charge shot attack. You have a green weapon with close range, high damage shots that gain spread as you powerup, and has a very powerful lock-on charge shot. Orange gives you spread missiles with long range and decent speed, with a charge shot that does frontal damage in a cone shape.

Then there's the red weapon, which is the coolest - it fires piercing lasers and has a full invulnerability shield charge shot that fires all around you if you tap or let go of the fire button, and fires straight forward if you hold fire during the charge shot (I always forget about this aspect). The shield also shoves away enemies if you ram them, so you can actually push bigger enemies to the sides of the screen and such (this isn't usually that useful, but it's pretty unique).

It's really cool. Why aren't more people playing this?

Because it's dreadfully easy until the last boss completely decimates you. I've gotten to him no-miss even without autofire and there was no chance of beating him. Also it has some pretty amazing issues for scoring.

That said the music does rule.
